Beating A Dead Horse - Pz III, etc

Just have joined the TOW community.

I realize there are over 40 posts about the lack of a short 5cmL42 gun Pz III but I must add my own as I was astonished to find only a PzIIIF in the editor along with the later long 5 cm gun models.

In order to have a good Barbarossa experience or even 1942 the game badly needs a G or H model with the 5 cm and extra armor (H model). There were about 965 Pz III's at the start of Barbarossa and 900 G and H models already produced to add to the inventory of approx 400 3.7 cm armed E and F models still available after Poland & France.

In addition by Sept 41 the J model (still with the 5cmL42) was available as a replacement after first going entirely to 2nd and 5th Pz Divs.

I also am disappointed that Panther D and A are not available as well as the late war arm. car Sdkfz 234 (icl. "Puma").

Finally where are the panzerjaegers? Nearly 3000 produced on the PzII and Pz38t chassis. Yes, you do have "Hetzer."

Perhaps modders out there will supply these?

They will certainly add many more units.

For a first release i consider the number of units quite good.

Oh and haven´t you noticed yet the "How will i kill a Matilda without a 88 ?" class of treads. :D

Obrigado! Btw, I'll be in Setubal in Nov 08.

Yikes!! Didn't notice the 88!! Will have to use my 10.5's in direct fire I guess.

OK, thanks guys I'll be patient. Will Uberpatch add any new weapons/tanks?

Nah, the Uberpatch adds a new campaign in normandy but no new units.

Quick battle generator and chance to fight AI controled units in multiplayer maps is the best it brings for me.

There is a 88mm antitank of 1943, not the flak 88.

You will have to do it the hard way, hit it from the sides or in their arse. tongue.gif

Setubal is nice, i live in Amadora, in the other side of Lisboa.

Maybe i will visit Tbilisi some day. :D

We lived 3 yrs in the Azores and have Portuguese friends who have a home there and in Setubal. We've been north & west of Lisbon to Cintra, Cascais, Santarem and Fatima. Been east to Evora as well.

My dream is to visit the Bovington (UK)& Kubinka tank museums. I have been to the German Pz Museum in Muenster. It is very nice. There is a good tank museum at Samur as well - have you been?

From 99 to 05 I was part of the Panzer Elite "Ostpak" mod team and helped with over 40 scenarios for OP. I still play CM BtoB and AK on a regular basis.

Waiting now to see what Steel Fury and T3485 vs Tiger is like. SF will have an editor but not TvsT I hear.

Making a new vehicle or weapon system at the moment is a question of the 3D software.

As I understand the models have to be in 3D MAX. Shop around and you will find its not a budget software at all ;)

Few if any people interested in TOW have it, be sure.

What would be nice is if some kind of format converter could be introduced. I mean the ability for the development team to import .3ds or .obj formats. That way, people could use modelers which are not as expensive or even free, as Blender or Wings3D are.

Shockwave just works on a process to convert Blender .obj format into their flight sim and have success, see Shockwave forum

Where is the marder? These were alot more plentiful than some of the in game tanks.

Gotta do something with all those captured russian 76.2mm guns.

Agree! As I said when I opened this subject there were approximately 3000 panzerjaegers made on Pz II and Pz 38t chassis and mostly referred to as "Marder." But of course they were not tranks and, except for 'Hetzer', they were open-topped and very lightly armored.

Correct. Was with the US Army at Lajes years ago.

Didn't you ever play "Panzer Elite"? Was produced in Germany in 1999 by "Wings" now "JoWood.". Is still quite good especially since modders redid tank models and skins adding everything from 'Jagdtigers' to the 'Maus' !!

Must check out SF.
