  1. CMFR will not install CM Fire & rubble. It imstalls 2.5 gigs and stops. Tried shutting down Norton and Malewar Bytes still refuses and stops at 2.5. I have room on my SSD 500. My rig is Dell 8900, i7-7700, 3.6 Ghz, Ram24GB,64bits,Raedon card. Am a 15 year customer. Ed
  2. Your right. Guess they never came up in QB for me since I was taking "suggestions." Glad to see I can pick them up.
  3. Just wanted to say I'm loving FI. Like the 120 mortars and wish they were in Normandy. It was a very important weapon for the Wehrmacht (and copied from the Soviets). Also like the radio being carried. Shouldn't there be a battery carried by a team member. Or maybe we need a guy with a hand crank generator ! Perhaps the PzIII N is much overused (Conrath's Counteratk) as Jentz's Vol 2 shows the HG had only 3 such 75L24 models. Also it may be too accurate and effective as the German field reports quoted in Jentz indicate the crews disliked that HEAT rd and said repeated hits (5 or 6) were necessary and the range was only good out to 5 or 600 meters. These reports were all from Russia so its possible the rd was better against the US vehicles.
  4. Good point. If I recall correctly these were mostly present in the original CM games. It was neat to see my infantry throwing them - I think it was the G Ladung at least.
  5. Any possibility a tweak can be made to put Tigers in the Luftwaffe OB for Quick Battles ? Although Tigers in Sicily were a Whermacht unit (2/504) that co sized unit was assigned directly to the "HG."
  6. Eastern Front 1 - OK great news. But start in Jan-Feb 44 with Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket please.
  7. The reason I just did 2 rerinstalls of Win 7 is because I had serious malware issues with Mic Sec Essentials which I'd had for some time. But I'll stick with Norton at least until my contract runs out. I had it with no issues for many years before switching to MSE. I do however appreciate the recommendation for the free system. I guess everyone has their own umbilical cord but this was posted for people having the same problem I was having and the fix couldn't be easier.
  8. I was wondering why this scenario starts with 5 PzIIIN's with the short 75L24. According tp the OB in Jentz's Vol 2 the 2 armor bns of "HG" had 43 Pz III 50L60 and only 3 Pz III N 75L24. It also had 32 Pz IV and a few Pz Bef tanks. The 3rd Bn had 29 Stugs (9 with the Haub). Would be best I think to change those Pz III to maybe 4 with 50's and 1 with the short 75. I also checked Kurowski history of the "HG" but could not find the Px III by model.
  9. As has been said: the CM exe is not deleted but quarantined by Norton. I again had a PC issue that required a reinstall of Win7. So I started reinstalling CMBN, Commonwealth and Italy. Oddly with Norton on I was successful installing CMBN with no blocking by Norton. But then Norton quarantined both the Commonealth module and the Fortress Italy. Here was the easy fix. Pull up Norton. Click on "Settings", go to "Tasks", go to "Security History." Scroll down to your quarantined CM file. Click on it. On the right of screen click on "Restore." The game and module loaded and played. On Italy it did require after loading the license number but the module did not ask for the license. Btw, closing down your Norton firewall for 15" doesn't work to install the games or module at least for me. They wre still quarantined.
  10. Certainly there was infighting over the concept and employment of tank destroyers whose performance was very poor at Kasserine but good at El Guettar but El G was a defensive battle for them ( M3 75GMC and M6) not the attack role planned for them. However after Tunisia the tank destroyer units were being reequipped with the much better M10 tank and that appears as the main reason they did not appear in Sicily but did go into Italy at Salerno.
  11. Glad the Pz III and some Italian stuff made it. Seems the Pz III was in both the "HG" (43 long 50 and 3 short 75) and 6 long 50's in the 15th PzGrd Div.
  12. Oops! My face is red. I thought game was Sicily plus mainland. Hah, I ordered it but would order it in any event as I love the play in CM.
  13. Didn't see the Ferdinand Elefant "SdKfz 184 as a new vehicle. Warum ? These vehicles were rebuilt after Russia to add a hull MG and sent to Italy.
  14. No, not without the stupidity of Hitler declaring war on the USA a few days after Dec 7. Perhaps at some later date as it has already been said that Roosevelt was determined to do it (but needed Congressional OK remember, Congress declares war not the Pres.). Possibly if the US had supplied Britain and the USSR with those large lend-lease items ( recall the Stuarts, Grants, and Shermans to North Africa) the German rage would have resulted in them finally declaring war on the US. Recall the Germans wanted the Japanese to attack Russia in the East to take the pressure off them and it was the Jap Army generally that preferred assisting the Germans but the Navy wanted Indonesia and its oil. Hitler should've held out for a Jap invasion of eastern USSR (despite the drubbing they got there in 1939) or not declared war on the US for no adbantage to Germany.
  15. Perhaps the most decisive event was not a battle but a decision. The decision by Hitler for solidarity with Japan by declaring war on the USA ( not required by their treaty). Would the USA Congress have permitted a declaration vs Germany without a German declaration or provocation. Probably not in 41 or 42, who can say about later. Without the US resources (not just troops but thousands of essential landing craft) there would not have been an invasion of Sicily, Italy or France. Possibly, if the undeclared US had still furnished the Brit 8th Army with the reliable Stuarts, and reliable and upguned Grants and Shermans a stalemate would have taken place in North Africa but no invasion from Morocco into Tunisia. And in Russia again it might have depended on what an undeclared US would do relative to lend lease. Furnishing the Red Army about 500,000 motor vehicles, aviation fuel additives, commo gear, locamotives and much would have slowed down the advances the Red Army could make even after Stalingrad.
  16. Storming the beach is a great start. I would recommend that no bunker's on top a crest ever, instead slightly down on the "military crest." Second, a few water puddles on the beach showing the tide left some sea water. Next no fences but instead poles with mines on top ( Rommel Spargel).
  17. Perhaps this has been mentioned but random QB maps would be nice or add another 20-30 QB maps.
  18. Nice pics. I made a video several years ago there while visiting family in Austria. I rented an Audia A4 and drove from Linz. Great and fun drive btw. Spectacular museum and it had just received all the East German Soviet stuff. Btw, when I was there I don't think that Panther had the Pz Lehr marking. Have to dig out my video and look.
  19. Oh, Oh, Michael Wittmann must be trembling in his boots ! But then he has no idea about the 17pdr Sherman. Surprise !
  20. Agreed. Lets move on to more germane game related history perhaps. Besides, I'm packing for Yellowstone and the Tetons right now. Leave Saturday.
  21. Its odd how totally wrong you are. Hitler initiated the war in Europe as a matter of conquest for resources and for political-racial interests. Political to reverse the results of WW1 (some of which by Versailles were wrong) and racial to kill the subhuman Slavs and Jews). The Allied countries reacted to aggressionto defend themselves and their allies. The allied nations were at peace and did not initiate any military action against Germany. The Japanese initiated the war in the Far East as a matter of conquest to acquire resources and gain the overlordship of Asia because of their supposed racial superiority. They attacked peraceful neighbors without any provocation. They initiated bombing of Chinese cities and conducted the infamous rape of Nanking and murder of tens of thousands of civilians. The allies did not attack Japan they were attacked and defended themselves. There is no logic in your arguments.
  22. Wow! What a stretch. As I recall we were in a declared war with Japan and Germany and they declared war on the US - both of them. And we bombed German cites as well. The Japanese & Germans bombed open cities as well when they were able early in the war. There were 2,000,000 Jap soldier in Japan and another 2,000,000 in Korea, Manchuko and the roughly 20% of China the Japs occupied. The Jap military was reluctant to surrender and the nukes gane them the reason to swallow and sign. How many additional Allied soldiers should we have sacrificed by land invasions of China, Korea, Manchuko and the Japanese islands. The US alone had just lost 50,000 casualties on Okinawa ( about 13000 dead). As far as the Soviets go it was really the victor taking what he could like the Russians still in East Prussia. Naturally the Japanese agreed.
  23. Certainly not. The Japanese had lost the war by June 1942 certainly by early 1943. The Japanese strategy in engaging the US was never to conquer but to defeat us in a series on naval and air battles so that we would come to terms and leave them alone in Asia. They hadn't meant Pearl Harbor to be a "sneak" attack but it was perceived as such by the US and there would be no thought of settlement.
  24. That was not how the Allies saw it. I used "bamboo spears" to make a point but there were great numbers of Japanese Army with weapons and after the blood letting at Iwo and Okinawa the nukes were called in. The nukes caused fewer casualties than a protracted land campaign would have caused based on our experience in Okinawa where there were Japanese women and children in large numbers. They were advised, and did commit suicide in horrific numbers rather than be captured or occupied. In Okinawa the Jap troops also used their own civilians as shields as they drove them forward into American lines. It was Okinawa that turned the page on to use or not use the nukes. There was also legitimate concern anout our own casualties and about the Russians who were rushing to get in against Japan and as you are certainly well aware still occupy parts of Japan's northern islands.
