Doodads?

Recommended Posts

Steve has already used the word "doodads" in reference to the new graphics, so they're there in some form or other.

Of course, they may not be the 2-D, cardboard cutout-type object we know from CMX1. . . but broadly speaking, judging from his comments in the thread about terrain and buildings, graphical eye-candy objects that meant to abstractly represent tufts of grass, rocks, furniture, etc. are in there somewhere.

Indeed as Pvt. Ryan implies, it's very difficult to imagine a 3-D engine without "doodads" in some form or other -- otherwise, you'd have to actually render every rock, weed and bush in 3-D, which would be *extremely* difficult to render. . . but advances in graphics rendering technology, such a bump mapping, etc. may allow some things, such as grass, to be rendered without "doodads" per se.

Cheers,

YD

My guess is the new graphics will obviate the need for doodads as we know them. Maybe grass will be represented 1:1. smile.gif

I think Steve thouched on the subject of doodads in the "A little bit about buildings" thread. </font>
