LRC
Are there plans for generating tactical maps from scenario maps ? I don't see how to seriously planify an action without having the equivalent of a topomap with information regarding impassable terrain.
gibsonm
I don’t think you are going to see a MCOO if that is what you mean.
LRC
For those wondering (MCOO=modified combined obstacle overlay )... Just a topomap generated from the scenario map with the most critical information would be enough (impassable terrain is part of the critical information)
Battlefront.com
This can be done by the scenario designer and put into the Briefing. The problem with us doing it is we would first have to make a tool that would create a meaningful looking topo map from either the 2D editor or 3D world maps. That's not something we plan on doing any time soon. Next we would have to provide some tools to allow people to mark up this newly generated map with various military symbols, text, and other "overlays". Again, that's a rather significant amount of work needed. If we had unlimited time/resources we would definitely do something like this. It's a very good idea and hold obvious value. It's just that compared to other things on our massive ToDo List it's pretty far down. Unfortunately, that means it is unlikely to happen short of it being a part of a larger project for a military client (at which point we would hire someone to do the work so we could keep going with the commercial stuff). gibsonm
This sort of stuff certainly is possible though with a bit of work: Current SITREP: Future Ops: [ April 26, 2008, 12:27 AM: Message edited by: gibsonm ]
Combatintman
APP-6A map symbol fonts for MS-OFFICE can be found here for anyone who is interested: http://www.mapsymbs.com/app-6a.html A suggestion would be to import your map into Powerpoint - add your symbols and then export to Photoshop or Paint or something similar to save it in the right format. There is also no reason why the scenario designer couldn't add Battlespace Area Evaluation markings in either Powerpoint or Photoshop/Paint to achieve the desired effect showing Restricted or Severely Restricted terrain and Mobility Corridors. The problem is that the map would then look cluttered. A way around this might be if Battlefront created more graphics slots in the Mission Editing Suite as follows: 1. Op Order (Blue Plan). 2. BAE Overlay (Ground and Mobility Corridors). 3. Assessed Most likely Enemy Course of Action.
Webwing
- There is a neat free tool to do all that, which I think is what Mark used for his images. MILSketch -
LRC
What's the coding environment of CM2x ? I'd like to give a shot at a (basic) Tactical map generator (from scenario map).
Combatintman
Webwing, Yes I know - I downloaded MILSketch some time ago. Its way too fiddly for me. The font pack I posted the link to is much quicker and easier in my view although of course you don't get tactical graphics just the unit symbology its also free by the way.
