Hev
I appreciate that BFC have had a lot of work on the last few months but it seems to me that waiting 6 weeks to fix something that the testers should have spotted straight away is wrong. So then Battlefront, why have we had to wait so long for this fix?
Battlefront.com
We scrapped the entire LOS system and replaced it with Enhanced LOS (check out the blog). That took a little while to implement and then we've been trying to make sure people don't immediately start bitching and complaining 5 minutes after the patch is out. Seems pretty straight forward to me Also, do not blame the beta testers. You have NO IDEA what they do and therefore are not in a position to judge them. Plus, I've already taken responsibility for the low wall problem because we didn't give the testers adequate time to test. Believe it or not, volunteers the week before Christmas aren't available to us 24 hours a day to test. Also, it hasn't been 6 weeks even taking into account we were cruel enough to take Christmas week (mostly) off. Not that it matters. I mean, if you want us to rush patches out without enough testing I can promise you we could release things with a LOT more problems than v1.05 had Steve

Battlefront.com
Adam has the summation correct. The Low Wall Bug was, in fact, a side effect of a last minute tweak to v1.05 to fix the shooting through the top lips of terrain (berms). To get around the side effect we could have either reverted and got the berm problem back, or rewrite the LOS code to be more detailed. Since we were planning on redoing the LOS code anyway (always have, just weren't sure the hardware could handle it), that's what we did. Definitely the right way to go BTW, technically the beta testers *did* catch the Low Wall Bug before v1.05 was released. However, because we didn't give them enough time they caught it while we were in the process of actually releasing the final patch. We decided it wasn't a good idea to wait, so we released it anyway. Even if we had it to do all over again we'd still have done the same thing. Steve
