About drops, pods etc

Why liveships' don't drop sensors directly instead to use a drop ship? that would be a greater implementation for recon activities and to create corridors for manouver or outmanouver the enemy.

We were talking about pods for infantry but sensors should come first, just imagine a libeship like a kind of Orion P3 ASW

Why do liveships not just make photographs of the battlefield and tell their vehicles where the enemy is?

Why do liveships not just shoot the other liveships dropships while they are in space and dropping?

Why do liveships not just shoot each other in space - they are both in close orbit?

I really like this game but I don't like dropships. Alas, this game is 'DropTeam' so they will not go away. If we get the game balance right (see other thread) with the dropships then everything is allright for me even if this part of the game doesn't make much sense.

Disposable drop pods are on the way for some types of delivery.

Limited inventory of dropships is on the way, too, but of course needs to have "reinforcement zones" included at the same time. This is almost done.

The background story and the campaign story go into this a little bit. The short answer is that Liveships, which are relics from an earlier era where advanced nanotechnologies were still ubiquitous, are invisible to almost all kinds of detection (including optical) except in the case of malfunctions, treachery, etc. which can force a battle between Liveships.

We could delve into your other two questions, too, but the real point is that you don't like dropships and you're wanting the reinforcement zones and dropship inventory limits to address that. They're on the way and are very close to release!

LiveShips, as Clayton says, are huge flying nano-factories with every kind of cloaking known ... well, OK, kinds of cloaking long forgotten out in the Rim. Plus, the Space Vikings live on them and you don't want to have folks shooting at the city you live in if you can just move or hide it.

Me, I like the dropping in from orbit in the dropships, but a combination of factors makes doing so somewhat awkward, at this point. For certain things _infy, reloads) it makes little sense. Sometimes the dropships can't land on a flat surface to save their lives, literally.

I like the idea, though, and I think its extremely valid and useful in-setting.

Clay, I said I wouldn't ask and I haven't. I'm a bit of a creationist here: you made it, I bought it, I have fun -> I don't ask why smile.gif

Alex, the liveships may be cloaked but the dropships aren't. So just shoot where the dropships start to appear.

Maybe they simply agreed upon not to shoot at each other since they are so seldom anyway. Or since they are 'live'ships they simply refuse to shoot any relatives. ;)

This might not actually be a winning strategy, either, if the LS creates a zone of effect or can create such through a smaller deployable. If so, then you just have a Space Hermes escort drops to an incursion point somewhere in the atmosphere, then pull away, revealing the drop moments before it gets at least somewhat shielded by the atmospheric reentry sheath.

There still should be a bloody battle for control of orbital space by a horde of other vessels, but perhaps Clay's next game'll be called Orbital Burn and be about the thousands of 0g orbital ships slugging it out over the battlefield ...
