Kaiser Wilhelm
It does not appear the current version creates convoy dameage resulting from surface raiders. I view this as a MAJOR flaw (particularly as the historic reality is that the Bismark and Tirpitz were sortied to conduct such raids). Anyting being done about this? Guest Mike
It never has done damage to convoys from surface whips, and it has always been noted asa flaw, and nothing has ever been proposed to fix it including 1.07 AFAIK... Perhaps they're holding off on it as a selling point for WaW??!
voncasey
so surface ships can't do mpp damage to convoys? that is odd

Liam
Actually if you are not going to allow raiding you could make the ownership of Subs more universal. French had a lot, Italians are represented. The British and Americans both had them even if only the British employed in the Med... None of this is represented Surface Raiders could be abstractly represented this way... The developers may think this through
Iron Ranger
Surface Raiders = why invade Norway. UK can park a few BBs on the route and no ore for germany. In fact, exactly how many tons of shiping did the two German BBs sink? Close to 0 right? Just a few convoys were hit going to USSR, and most of that was by the much faster crusers. Guest Mike
The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau showed what could be achieved by surface raiders - in 2 months Feb-March 41 the Scharnhorst sank 8 ships for about 50,000 tons, the Gneisenau 14 for about 65,000 tons. Graf Spee had sunk 9 ships Sept-December 39. The Bismark and Tirpitz might not have sunk anything, but their threat was real and well understood. arado234
Iron Ranger the two german battleships didnt sink any tonnage because they didnt get the chance. The british under no circumstances would allow them out into the convoy lanes because of what they WOULD do had they got the chance. If those ships had gotten out into the convoy lanes combined with uboats they would have posed a real threat. As far as the brits.blocking the ore shipments, all the germans would have done(and we should be allowed to do in this game)is use the swedish port of Lulea for all the ore shipments while the bay remained unfrozen. The germans would have had to have built a rail line linking the swedish mines to oslo and the port of halden or not ship during the months the swedish port remained frozen.
