FWIW, DesertDave and I reviewed Advanced Third Reich and World in Flames OOBs, force pool limits, production delays and such and made recommendations to Hubert. Some adjustments have been necessary, and more continue to be made as playtesting continues. If you are familiar with these other games and how the limits affect gameplay (in a good way, yes?), then you should recognize and appreciate what's happening in SC2.

Players can always select the soft build penalty option to exceed force pool limits and select no production delays for instant builds for that SC-Classic game. Hopefully most players will opt for the more challenging game with the new features.

Im overjoyed to read about the above features,...this will make for a more realistic, gripping & satisfying gaming experience!.

Im particularily interested in the Production Delays feature which is realistic, this will require more advanced planning as to anticipating one's force-structure requirement's.

Also i would like to see a "RE-TOOLING" [WAR IN RUSSIA had it] factor included in the game to reflect a loss of production until new production equipment is installed to produce a more advanced product than was previously being produced!,...or to change over a factories previous production to some other production item!.

Maybey here we can test out for anyone or for the Germans for example,...if they had instead produced many more Pz IV's instead of a few Tiger I's & II's, would they have been further ahead???.

We've discussed some sort of gearing ratio like WiF has. Simplest solution may be to have a purchase cost discount for like units already in the production queue. For example, a second tank group might cost 5-10% less if another tank group is in production, etc. This would provide an incentive for players to keep some production lines busy. If you stop and restart, then you pay full price. We've got dozens of little enhancement ideas like this for future consideration, after release. And I'm sure players will have lots of additional good suggestions for consideration. But let's get the game out first, yes?

This would indeed be nice, but IMHO too many of these things can wear the game down considerably. The biggest advantage that CM has over other game is that is focusses on untis, not on all the other things around it. If you start to go down the let's-add-this-detail you'll lose your advantage over other games out there.

Plus, it will be harder to find good opponents. Every option means others way of playing, other tweaking, other habbits and thus other specialist players. If you're gonne add ten options like these, noone will find good opponents to match their strength anymore.

And your point is what? As with SC1, I would expect the ladder community to eventually settle on a tournament campaign with or without bids and players will compete with "standard" options. I would also expect players to be able to settle on their particular style of gameplay and find like-minded opponents to play with, and SC2 will be able to accomodate many different tastes. Others will be perfectly content to play solo against the AI and will probably customize their games however they want to. And still others will use the editor to create new games and play them. All in all, I'd say that's a good thing for everybody, right?
