French Fragility

Recommended Posts

Ate the French too fragile now with Winter amendments.

Playing 2 games at the mo whereby Benelux was taken in turn 2. This then resulted in quick French defeats Dec 39.

I probably need to perhaps practice a few French defences to determine suitable counter but was wondering if others have seen the same effect....ie French crumbing quicker than previous versions

Yes, with more mild climates the Axis have an advantage early (see two other threads about the weather). It also means the Allies have an easier time late in the game. Good or bad? Well, it allows the Axis the time and resources to become a rather powerful force. It makes the management of the Allies to somehow slow down that force until USA and USSR enter and use economics to turn the tide.

Once Germany can start attacking your Frenchies, it is time to leave the Maginot behind, and maybe toss some British support in. March or April 1940 isn't too much to ask for then.

I'd like to see a MOD incorporating the 'de Gaulle' Option. He wanted to concentrate the French Armoured forces as a separate entity, as well as to build up those forces to several times their present size!.

Col. Charles de Gaulle, in France, was a known advocate of concentration of armor and airplanes — views that little endeared him to the French high command, but are claimed by some to have influenced Heinz Guderian.

At the outbreak of World War II, de Gaulle was only a colonel, having antagonized the leaders of the military through the 1920s and 1930s with his bold views. After the German breakthrough at Sedan, on 15 May 1940, he was finally given command of the 4th Armoured Division.

On 17 May 1940, de Gaulle attacked the German tank forces at Montcornet. With only 200 French tanks and no air support, the offensive had little impact on the German advance. There was more success on 28 May, when de Gaulle's tanks forced the German infantry to retreat at Caumont. This was one of the few significant French tactical successes against the Germans during the campaign. Prime Minister Paul Reynaud promoted him provisional brigadier general (thus his title of général de Gaulle).

*NOW!!!,...What do you think he could have accomplished if his idea's were taken seriously???.*

Defending France is a trick now, Scook gave some good tips and insight, Weather as far as Frozen landscapes has been phazed back slightly, there is a lot more mud. During Mud, movement is hindered but you're still able to inflict and take massive damage. Air is pretty useless unless close up...

I find that France falls in Spring with good luck with weather, and with bad luck in 1939 depending on how the Axis player approaches the situation

I presume you are all talking about PvP, right ? Because against the AI on hardest settings, you can still defend France untill Russia joins when you move in all UK troops.

Yes, Tao, the newer moves since the last patch allow for a Parisian take down real early because weather will not hold frozen as it did in 1.0-1.2 patches
