JasonC
Um, not Franciscans. Benedictines. Monte Cassino was founded by St. Benedict, who lived there and is buried there. It was the first monastery in the western world - St. Benedict created the monastic orders. It is the original, all others are copies. It was founded in the early 6th century. I was destroyed 3 times before WW II - in the late 6th century by Lombards, in the 9th century by Saracens, and in the 14th century by an earthquake.
