90mm AA error?

Recommended Posts

It is AP, not HEAT. However, there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it. At 30 degrees, the difference between 1000m and 2000m penetration values is only 2mm. So it is quite possible that at 0 degrees the drop in penetration capability between 500m and 1000m is less than 1mm.

By the way, I noticed when checking this that there seems to be a "hole" in the left front wheel of the 90mm gun carriage.

Armour penetration is a function of kinetic energy, 1/2 *m*v^2, and velocity drops off at range due to drag, which is itself a function of velocity. The designed hitting power of an AA gun is due to it's HE shell, and it's vertical range is due to velocity.

There is no way that you can design a basic gun firing a KE AP shell that can retain it's performance over 500m.
