TheCrow
I have seen than the penetration value for the american gun (90mm AA) is 136mmº/0º 500m range. And at 1000m range is surprising the same 136mm/0º. Some error here? Thanks
AC
Maybe it's hollow charge (HC) ammunition?
flamingknives
Or there's a shatter gap at close range. The similarity in figure indicates an error, but it may only be in the unit property window, while the game data may be correct.
TheCrow
Yes it could be a wrong wrotte error (or not). But it is a little thing than could be corrected in the next pacth.
Sergei
It is AP, not HEAT. However, there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it. At 30 degrees, the difference between 1000m and 2000m penetration values is only 2mm. So it is quite possible that at 0 degrees the drop in penetration capability between 500m and 1000m is less than 1mm. By the way, I noticed when checking this that there seems to be a "hole" in the left front wheel of the 90mm gun carriage.
TheCrow
Seeing the others guns perfomance, it is hard to believe to me than this gun doesn´t lose penetration capability after 500m range
Pzman
I can understand why it doesn't . Consider the fact that it is an AA gun meant to hit targets a long range and maintain its hitting power.
flamingknives
Armour penetration is a function of kinetic energy, 1/2 *m*v^2, and velocity drops off at range due to drag, which is itself a function of velocity. The designed hitting power of an AA gun is due to it's HE shell, and it's vertical range is due to velocity. There is no way that you can design a basic gun firing a KE AP shell that can retain it's performance over 500m.
Redwolf
It's the scatter gap.
Cthulhu Dreams
Some rule of thumb testing reveals that the hit prob and kill chance both drop off over the 500m - 1000 m gap, so it does appear that the game is using the correct data, and the labels are wrong:)
