It’s been implied in the previous thread the Japanese Army was somewhat “second rate”; yet they were able to inflict one of the most humiliating defeats in British history at Singapore. Wisbech_lad Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 There's a book by a Singaporean historian on Operation Matador. http://ourstory.asia1.com.sg/war/headline/church.html Basically, he shows that the British Far East Command had thought about the problem, and had good plans for land defense of Malaya & Singapore. Unfortunately the plan called for (& required) twice the resources they actually ended up with, due to what was going on elsewhere in the world...
