Wicky
Protesters in Budapest this week seized a World War II-era tank that had been part of an open-air display and drove it 100m down the road. Is it just a matter of switch on and go?'How to drive a tank' by Peter Caddick-Adams, Military historian
Kineas
Lol, this was a hot topic here in Hungary. They figured out yesterday that though the batteries were removed, the tank itself can be started with compressed air stored in a tank. Because the T34 were designed to start in the winter tundra, with batteries working or not. The lost air was compressed again during normal operation. An old <s>fart</s> veteran knew this and drove the thing away until it ran out of fuel, which was enough only for 100m luckily.

John Kettler
Other Means, Alternate explanation might be that the driver's hatch was welded or painted shut on the one Caddick-Adams drove. Clearly, the one started by the enterprising vet in Hungary has a wide open driver's hatch in the glacis. Regards, John Kettler
