Research

It's too quiet, so here's something for discussion. Should actual production and experience of new unit types have any effect on the research of subsequent types? This probably isn't considered, but perhaps could be. You wouldn't expect to jump from light tanks or bombers to heavy ones without any field experience with mediums. Perhaps a simple requirement to produce a new unit type and gain an experience point in order to activate the next research level, or at least provide a research bonus for the next level?

Here is another question, probably stupid:

Once we achieve a new level of research/tech... do our units in the field automatically become that new level, or do we have to either reinforce or buy new units to have that new tech level?

Mr C,

Poof! If you yell "Timeout!" very loudly, the enemy will pause hostilities long enough for all your units to upgrade simultaneously. ;)

Each research level can also increase the overall strength of a unit that it applies to, i.e. each new level of 'Heavy Tanks' will increase the overall potential strength of a tank unit by +1 point. So if you have 'Heavy Tanks' Level-3 then the potential strength of a tank unit will now be 10 + 3.

So while research does automatically upgrade all units in the field you will still have to reinforce a unit to it's maximum value in order to take full advantage of the newly developed research. So in effect this is part of balancing ease of play with some unit management.

Hope that helps,

Hubert
