Fangorn Posted February 11, 2001 Share Posted February 11, 2001 I noticed that as well a while ago but a search solved the puzzle: the mg42 lmg requires two soldiers to be properly used. In the first squad, one of the rifle soldiers drops his weapon and helps the mg gunner in close quarters, as his weapon is less efficient at that range. In the second squad the opposite happens, the mp40 is better in close quarters, so the mg42 fires alone, with lesser fire power, but at long range a mp40 soldier helps the mg42 soldier, so a small gain in fire power.
