"Never in the field of human conflict has one weapon system been spelt so badly by so many people..." There were the ones who were almost right: nahverteidigungswaffe Nahverteidigungswaffe nahverteigungswaffe "nahverteigungswaffe" Nahverteigungswaffe Nahverteidgungswaffe nahvertigungswaffe ... the people who kind of knew who to spell it but got lost half way: nahvergungsteidnwaffenbittescheisse Nahverthingamajig Nahvertdoohicky Nachverteidigunswhatevers Nahfwhatsitcalled ... the people who might have known how to spell it but couldn't be bothered: neblblahblah nebelblabla Nahve... Nahvert... Nahvertigung... Nahver... Nvgwfe nahv-related NahVW Nahvtwf Nahblahblah ... the people who didn't have a clue, but knew what they meant: Hermiwhatchmachalit granade thing AP (anti personel) bomblet motar things ... and finally the all in definition: nah - close Verteidigung - defense Waffe - weapon the 's' is included for grammatical reasons (don't ask me which, it just has to be there) Ahh, I get so many laughs out of this board... Mark IV Posted January 17, 2000 Share Posted January 17, 2000 While you are loking , try the prefix "nach" in your searches, as I in desperation called them "Nachverteidigunswhatevers" knowing this was lacking in Teutonic precision. There are probably other "nach"-based permutations about. As "nach" can mean "towards" and shares a root with "nah" (neighborhood, nearby) this is a likely error. That way, not only is it unpronouncable (like those compound german words), but they could mean any of a hundred different things....
