Sergeant Huang
(I did a search with key word mortar, then another with machine gun, and can't find what I want, if you know the key words please let me know , thanks !!) Yes, I think so, at least for a short distance. Take the heaviest MG 50 Cal in CM for example, 3 men take each end of the tripot and they can run for 100 meters and won't be weary. I did this when I was in the army. Also, the mortar unit can run like the MG units, but only for a short distance. If two men take a 81mm mortar, sure, they can run for a while. Although both of these units can't run as fast as the rifle squads, but they do run. Especially when someone is shooting at them, who will walk slowly like a sitting duck ?? What do you think , folks ?? I wish the BTS adds this feature to the CM2 !! Sgt.Haung ------------------ Sgt. Huang I LOVE my country, but my government sucks. Stoffel
No they will not let them run. This is discussed thoroughly. Try the word Nike and you will find the discussion.
coralsaw
Hey Stoffel, why the sarcasm/flaming man? I tried to search, as a result of your comment (even searched for "Nike" ) but didn't manage to point Sgt to a good thread. Why not help if you can, either point to a threat or summarise? But maybe I'm unreasonable... Respect. ------------------ My squads are regular, must be the fibre in the musli...
chasd
If you are asking 'can Heavy Machine Gun and Heavy Mortar units run in real life' my answer would be: I have no idea. If you are asking, however, 'can HMG an Hvy Mort. units run in Combat Mision: Beyond Overlord' my answer would be: a big fat NO! I came to this conclusion by opening up CM, clicking on a HMG and MVY Mort., pressed 'space bar' and seeing if there is a 'run' command. There has been a HUGE discussion on this, key words are 'mg42 run' , the topic name 'Spur of the Moment Complaining'.
Tiger
The thread mentioned by chasd should be required reading for all who post here basically your infantry squads do have mgs and they can run with them. However these are in the "light" configuration, i.e. only a bipod, not a ton of ammo, essentially the saw) and then you have the mg in the heavy configuration. Has a tripod and a butt-load of ammo...4000 rounds or so dispersed amongst the 6-man hvy mg squad. Try running with that. ok, this has nothing to do with S. Huang's post, just a quote from the thread mentioned:
quote:
There is an old German proverb, that could roughly be translated as: The way you call into the forest, it will echo back

good proverb Germanboy, it made reading that thread worth it -john

Stoffel
It wasnt meant to be sarcastic, sorry if it came over that way. And yes it is my opinion a mg team can run. I know I have been a MAG gunner. The damn thing weighs 14 kilo and I have run with it,you have to rest though after 200/300 meters But the overal answer remained the same, bts said they wouldn't change it. Mark IV
The Brit 2" mortar team can run, though they tire easily. I believe they're the only mortar which can.

I totally agree on the required reading (as I would). And that's why I got such a laugh out of the 'running' HMG team picture in the Imperial War Museum. Sergeant Huang
Thanks for all the answers !! I think I have to make some of my points more clearer. "They can run a short distance" that means the distance is 50-100 meters, the more they run, and the more time they need to be rested. However, there is also a rule for running, the continuous running time should be less than 1 min and 30 seconds (or you have some other opinions), since those things are kind of heavy. I watched SPR and saw a two-men M1919 team did run from house to house. ****************************************** I posted this since I think the CM is the most real squad level simulation is the whole world, now and before. So, I point out my personal point of view to BTS (and folks ) out there) and try to make CM more real. ******************************************* ------------------ Sgt. I really suggest you read thread 8080. All is revealed there. Until somebody does a real-life test with an HMG and s**loads of ammo, running even a short distance, I can not see BTS change this, they have made this pretty clear. ------------------ Andreas Der Kessel Home of „Die Sturmgruppe“; Scenario Design Group for Combat Mission. What about the five-gallon water supply you have to carry in each hand? Can you run with that? David Aitken
There is an easy solution to that – you drink the water, and the resulting ordinance is far more potent than simple H20. It should be noted that flamethrower teams should not attempt this technique.

Although this is a highly effective tactic, care must be taken not to cram more than two men in the same room, else the resulting "Backblast" will light up the room as easily as a Panzershreck.
