Fionn
What precisely do you want to know about? The Cold War is a massive subject. Be specific and I'm sure people will be able to give you all the info you could possibly want.
Coolguy101
All i really need to know is how germany was divided after world war2 such as which country controlled which part of germany and what nations took part and the tensions between them. i havent found a single site on it yet. The stupid teacher wouldnt know if i got it right or wrong anyway. She doesnt know crap about what she teaches. She already gave us the wrong dates for pearl harbor bombing and she even got the normandy d-day date wrong but i happily corrected her Its sad that one who is suppose to teach the subject doesnt know it and has to have a 14 year old student correct her. As for the library, I can pull better books out of my arse. Even though i will eventually go to the other one which is like far away. oh well thank Peace

Zamo
Great...Just great...Now I not only have to worry about the children today (What the heck is a Booooyaaa???) Now I have to worry about their teachers as well....Oh well, Nothing new there. We get what we pay for, don't we? $24k a year only buys so much, and todays teachers have to cut something out of their lesson plans if they're going to make room for their left wing ideological brainwashing. Go get 'em tiger! I can't wait to hear how she teaches you of our "criminal" use of atomic weapons against the poor Japanese... Again, I rant...Sorry! Shriker
CNN has an online section related to their "Cold War" television series. There's a wide variety of information there that covers the whole period, as I recall. http://cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/ Hope this helps, -Shriker

Major Tom
"You know why? Because we got the bombs, that's why. Two words, nuclear f**king weapons, okay! Russia, Germany, Romania, they can have all the democracy they want. They can have a big democracy cake and walk right through the middle of Tiananmen Square and it won’t make a lick of difference, because we got the bombs, okay? John Wayne's not dead, he's frozen, and as soon as we find a cure for cancer we're gonna thaw out the Duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off, you know why? Have you ever taken a cold shower, well multiply that by 15 million times and that's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be, and I'll get the Duke and John Cassavetes and Lee Marvin and Sam Peckinpah and a crate of whisky and ride down to Texas..." This is the Cold War summed up by Denis Leary in one simple paragraph. [This message has been edited by Major Tom (edited 04-26-2000).]
Fionn
Trivia Question... Can anyone name the US delivery system which resulted in the ONLY RECORDED double mushroom when the nuke it delivered detonated ? It's on video and it is quite interesting to see. IIRC it was pretty much a purpose-built delivery system.
Maus
Major Tom, LMAO. That's great stuff! You can't beat Dennis Leary's ( and Dennis Miller's I might add) wisdom. Always to the heart of the matter Zamo,
quote:
Oh well, Nothing new there. We get what we pay for, don't we? $24k a year only buys so much

Total agreement here.
quote:
they're going to make room for their left wing ideological brainwashing

From my evidence this statement is totally false ( of course I'm not allowing for the sarcasm factor here ). I went to high school in the US in the early '90s I assume things haven't changed much since then ( my live-in girl friend , sister and best friend are all high school teachers and they have indicated to me that things haven't) and there was no "left wing ideological brainwashing" at that point.Anecdotal evidence follows: (we were taught...) -the Roman empire was the end-all be-all of ancient cultures, virtually no others were mentioned -Columbus was the first person, not just the first European, to discover America( both are factually incorrect) -the US colonists revolted from the British empire because they were horrible oppressed -virtually the only time slaves or slavery in the US was mentioned was when we were told that Abe Lincoln freed them ( and I went to a school that was 60% African-American or black to those of you who are easily offended by new ways of looking at things ) -the American west was settled and won by heroes and railroads. No mention of genocide was made -Karl Marx was the first of a long line of evil communists and socialists -America hated and was the enemy of imperialism. No one even mentioned American imperialism, the Spanish American war, The Maine incident,or American excursions into Central America -the US came in and won WWI -the US same in and won WWII. The Japanese and Germans were all evil and the Soviet Union was strangely absent form our WWII lessons -the Vietnam war didn't go that well for the US because of all the protesters on the home front. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was never mentioned -Russia was never mentioned until the cold war lessons where sudden all the Russian people became evil commies -Evolution wasn't allowed to be taught to us. We were given a 40 min "Evolution of Basketball" allegory and left to fend for ourselves ( This still brings a smile to my face) -No literature outside the canon was presented. The only non-white male that I read was Emily Dickenson Keep in mind that this is only a representative sample. All my teachers (except one) were white males. All I really wanted was a balanced view of history, culture and science. I didn't get it and I really don't see where your left-wing consipricy is. Enlighten me if you like, I am always open to new evidence and I will adjust my beliefs accordingly. cheers, maus PS.
