1. Hey pnguyen, I have the same drive and CM runs fine on my machine. I know that this won't solve your problem but it at least narrows things down a bit. cheers, maus [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 07-16-2000).]
 2. Duh! You're right! I'm such an idiot for enjoyin' the hell out CM. I am so dumb. "Me fail English? That's unpossible!" COULD... NOT... RESIST... FEEDING... TROLL... ------------------ V ozo ------------------ The who with the what now? ......Where's my medication?! [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-16-2000).]

BUT it was the last of the high-powered Mohicans, because it stopped short of full-auto and was over-powered for a lot of shooters, way over-powered for full-auto use (like BAR).

The same case could be made that the P51 was the last and best of the Prop-Driven Mohicans. As you know, the era of jet began towards the end of WWII. Still, the P51 would be an incredibly devestating choice of an aircraft in it's historical context. Similarly, while the MP44 is an extremely power firearm, a semi-auto .30-06 like the Garand ain't nothin' to giggle at. 4. My friends! I raise my pint in your general direction. That stug is truly immaculate! Mad-Dog, you are a scholar and a gentleman. I you leave it up to you decide which is which! Cheers! maus ------------------ V ozo ------------------ The who with the what now? ......Where's my medication?!
 5. Jon_S - You da man! Thanks for the info. This lack of major troop numbers begs a question - Where were the rest of the Free French? I'd think that the French would insist that they be the first to land on French soil. And I'm sure many French did but why then were they not there in large numbers? Were they held back by Allied high comand for strategic, political or counter-intelligence reasons, held back because they were not properly organized or equipted? Perhaps they were engaged in other theaters? Any ideas? Cheers! maus ------------------ V ozo ------------------ The who with the what now? ......Where's my medication?! 6. Joe, That's the kind of stuff that I am looking for. I fully realize that there were French troops used in the later campaigns. I should have made that clear. My fault and thanks to all for replying. I was specically after troops that were used on invasion day. Cheers! maus
 7. I am not aware of any Free French units used at, specifically, the landings at Normandy. Were there any that I am just ignorant of? If not, why? Were they all tied up in other theatres? No ill will is intended towards the French, it is just a history question. Cheers! maus [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-14-2000).]
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: The only reason I thought of this is playing A Chance enounter as the German and thinking "Gee, I wonder if my Schreck has even a chance of ambushing a Sherman coming over that hill in front of him?" The game says that the max range is 225m, but in reality, and in the game, there is almost no chance to get a hit at that range, so my poor Schreck got toasted. Had I known that the odds of getting a hit at 200m were extremely slim, I would have put him somewhere else. That is all. Had the issue been whether or not my SMG squad could effectively ambush an enemy infantry unit, there would ahve been no question, I would have checked the unit detail box, seen what the effective range was, and acted accordingly. How is this differnt? Can someone explain that to me without resorting to a strawman argument? Jeff Heidman

Jeff, You are asking for a generic "to hit" table. What is given is a generic damage/penetration table. What is given has nothing to do with probability to hit. As Germanboy said you are trying to compare apples and oranges. It seems to me that BTS made a design decision not to include a "to hit" table and leave this type of info up to intuitive discovery by the user. If I am correct about BTS design decision, then your experience in CE with the 'shreck is just what they wanted for a user who does not know the historical practicalities of various weapon system. Live and learn I guess....errrr, maybe lose and learn.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Bullethead: I'm hoping they offer real, working flamethrowers, panzerfausts, Panthers, 15cm sIGs, etc. I'd probably buy the entire collection

Screw the coffee mug! I'm with Bullethead! I need something to crush all those giant suburban house wife driven SUVs. Maybe as a bonus for ordering BTS will throw in a sniper with each order trained to disable the cell phones of all those clumsy driver/ chat mongereing multi-taskers. eeekkkk! I've started to rant. Where's my medication??!! [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-14-2000).]
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by HRKing: Is this before the heart attack? Or after?

Heart attack? Does dat even matter? From what I heard Da Coach had his heart replaced wit a nice 2" pork chop after dat little bout wit dat wuss heart disease, my friend. [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-14-2000).]
 11. Jeff, Please do not take offense to this because none is intended. That being said I think BTS and others have made themselves abundantly clear. IMO, the type of chart you seek is not in the game because the game is designed to play intuitively. This means that if one does not know and understand the proper tactics and/or historical equipment performance enough to apply them effectively in the game, one needs to learn them by playing. Learning through doing, trying and failing make lessons learned distinct, clear and nearly unforgettable. Cheers! maus
 12. My vote? Those coffee mug thingies! [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-13-2000).]
 13. Hows 'bout mini-Ditka vs. da Waffen SS? I sez mini-Ditka grounds da Waffen SS into polish saassage and grills 'em over a burning black jackboot. [This message has been edited by Maus (edited 06-14-2000).]
 14. Now I'm sure there is someplace worse in the US but I have trekked across a lot of land here and yeah, Ft. LW is a real hell. Before I experienced that place I didn't know what a temperate jungle was. In the winters that place wasn't all that bad but the summers, Oh My! Some of the vegetation in the creek valleys, lowlands and flood plains is literally impassable. I have heard so many ticks falling from trees trying to get a piece of me that it sounded like rain as they bounced off leaves on the way down. I saw poor souls stumble into tick nests. Those guys were still pulling ticks from their bodies nearly a week later. In the summer, a good day was when at the end of the day during the simian -like grooming session we called "tick shake downs" only 10 or less ticks were found on you. You were lucky if you were infested by "Lone Star" ticks. They are larger and therefore much easier to spot than their mini cousins. I'm not sure how they manage but those damn things are nearly indestructable! I grew to actually prefer ticks to chiggers though. The chiggers, in my experience, were much worse at Ft Riley than at Ft. LW. When you get chigger bites (or whatever exactly they do to you), you get a TON of them concentrated around your sock line and around your waist and there is nothing you can do but try not to scratch and wait till they go away. The first time I encountered them I ended the day with about 150 bites! Copperheads were as common as squirrels in a old lady's suburban back yard. Not fun. Hell, I haven't talked about the heat and humidity. It wasn't that much worse than where I grew up (Chicagoland, Illinois) but you always clothed from head to toe in somekind of tucked in, chemical soaked, textile. Oh, I almost forgot going up and down those steep foothills (avoiding stepping on poisonous snakes when you could) getting tangled up in skin slicing wire (I'm not sure if it was trip wire or some of that guide wire from missiles from the A10's that would occasionally fart their way around). A couple of weeks after digging up some unexeploded mortar rounds at Ft. Riley ( I got to watch the demo. guys "remove" them ) I was "killed" by some troops training in the woods of Ft. LW by their "claymore" (I was walking and felt a tug on my leg, which was not unusual, but this time a firecracker-like device went off a couple of feet to my right---it scared the absolute **** out of me) Then there was the town of St. Roberts. Prostitutes, cheap hotels, strip bars (all "I'm going to try and hold back the vomit" BAD), and drunken teenagers. That place is the asshole of Missouraahhh. Enough complaining... I'm going to give myself nightmares.
 15. Got my BA Anthropology from the University of Illinois in '96 and spent the next couple of years humpin' my way around Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Riley, Shaw Air Force Base and Pointsette Weapons range doing archeaological surveys. On those boring evenings when I stayed away from the bars and the outside of my cheap hotel rooms avoiding fights with drunken 18 year old soldiers or just plain crazy 18 year old marines I taught myself C and Java. Went back to the U of I and just finished my degree in Computer Engineering. In a couple of weeks I start a new job as a senior network programmer for Reuters. cheers! maus
