German Speakers

Just want to tap into the knowledge on this forum. I was watching Saving Private Ryan again and was wondering what does Corporal Uppum say to the German soldier, the one they had released, after he shoots Captain Miller. I know the last thing the German says is "Uppum", but what else do they say? Thanks

Oops, screwed up. I misread the question, thought you were asking what the German soldier said. I'll have to watch it again to catch what Uppam says.

German version (from memory, will check it later):

Upham: Waffen runter! (Drop your weapons)

German soldier: Upham? Ich kenne den Mann! (I know this man)

*boom*

Upham: Verschwindet. Los, haut ab! (aehm, like: get lost!)

<hr>

I'll check it up and edit this post then.

Despite my age and overall stupidity.....I'm fluent in French, German, Italian and of course, English.

I can pick parts of what steamboat willy said,

Upham runs in, and says, "Die waffen niederlengen!!! Die waffen niederlengen!!

translates to: Put down your guns!!!

Then steamboat willy says "I know this man!!"

What Upham says next is unclear....

Then after Upham shoots Steamboat Willy, and he says "werschwindet!" which means translate to "dissapear" and he says "haut ab" which is the command form of "strike off"

Oh man was that scene difficult to watch. Ugh.

My friend translated it to me last year. I can't recall exact words now, but he said in essence (and not in an aggressive way, but passively) that he should relax, war was hell, and the pain and suffering of the war would be over for him soon.

Maybe someone with the DVD can turn on the subtitles and translate exactly?

A while back I was looking around at SPR websites to see if they have translations. One of the FAQ'S said that the guy said:

"Give in . . . you have no other choice . . . make it easier for both of us . . . . shhhhhh."

Yes a difficult scene to watch indeed.
