TCP/IP Port Number

I know its whatever the standard TCP port Directplay uses. 2386 maybe? I will have to dig that up as it came up early in the beta testing. Charles knows for sure.

and a few other resources list directplay ports as follows:

directplay 2234/tcp DirectPlay

directplaysrvr 47624/tcp Direct Play Server

Not sure if this is what CM uses.

I'm curious, what type of firewall you are using? Is it a hardware-based router like the one offered by LinkSys or software-based?

I too am very interested in finding out what port(s) CM uses for TCP/IP multiplay.

According to the SyGate software, DirectPlay uses the below ports. However, it was my experience that some of the ports used everytime I'd play a game would 'randomly' be different. (Don't know if I just wasn't reading the info properly or what though.)

I no longer use the SyGate software and switched to the Linksys Cable/DSL router awhile back. It works fairly well, but if I read the release notes on this patch properly, I will not be able to host any games behind my router. That's somewhat disappointing, but there are worse things in life.

Anyway, here's the info from the SyGate software configuration about DirectPlay. Can't vouch if it's accurate or not.

(Note the lines showing a different beginning & ending port number. I 'think' this indicates the entire 'range' of ports, thus there's quite a few to plan for.)

I do put one of my pc's into the DMZ for some other games I host and figured I'd do this for CM. (Haven't had a chance to try this yet with CM.) But if it only uses port 7023 as Madmatt has responded, then it won't be necessary and I can forward that single port to my pc. (Sure wished the Linksys router had better capabilities with the port forwarding, etc., but I guess for the price that's a bit much to expect.)

I have the LinkSys router (Firmware v1.36)and was able to host a TCP/IP game.

Configured the forwarding table in the router to forward port 7022~7024 to my internally assigned IP. My opponent was given the IP address assigned by my ISP to the router.

He had no problems connecting to me or exchanging data.
