  1. The reason I asked is I want to know how many of you punks I have to beat to the punch when CMBB finally comes out! I guess the answer is that nobody here really knows.. I'd hazard a guess at around 100,000 units by now. If it hasn't sold that many, it should have based on awards alone.
  2. Does anyone know what the size of the Combat Mission player base is? Or how many units have been sold so far?
  3. That's too bad, I've seen a couple of hokey movies someone cut together (they really were aweful), but I would have loved to see some other player's complete games. I can imagine that saving all the moves on a 25 turn game could create a large reply file, but I would take the time to download them.
  4. Why isn't there some way to save an entire series of turns and replay (watch only) the action from beginning to end? It seems like this wouldn't have been all that hard to implement, but what do I know...
  5. Of course a TRP would help, the deflection and elevation for any gun would be pre-calculated. Thats the point of having a known reference point. For mortars, the charges would be preset on some rounds as well. It means a fast response with no adjustment rounds necessary. We used to write the sight information down for special targets and sheaf alignments and tape it right on each gun in the section. [ 10-11-2001: Message edited by: JacMac ]
  6. Once I got the nVidia GeForce 2 GTS Ultra set up, CM works great at 1600x1200. Even with a gigantic battlefield, I can't get it to go choppy on me. The CM graphics may not be the greatest, but they are fast.
  7. I understand the Swastika is illegal in Germany, but I don't really care. I don't think most Germans care either. I certainly don't blame the developers for not putting them in the game, and I'm rather grateful that it can be easily modified. Maybe a few others are too. People seem to make a big deal out of the Swastika without knowing the full history of it's origin and true meaning. Believe me Nazism and Hitler had little to do with it, they simply adopted it and gave it a bad reputation. In any case, if the symbols Germany had used were a dove or olive branch, I would have tried to emulate those. They are just images, people give them meaning by their thought and action. 8. Actually many of the Rangers depected here are in fact veterans or crack units and I gave some units those designations. However, the reality is that many were replacments and the battalion had just been rebuilt for action (so to speak). The battle for Hill 400 was the swan song for this unit, it was never to see action again. JacMac
  9. It annoys me when history is sanitized. I'm no artist, but here are a few unimportant graphic files: Politically Uncorrect JacMac
  10. It's interesting that you would like to see a few more TRP's, I had four originally. I took two away because it seemed to be too easy with four (although not a cake walk). Maybe three TRP's would be a good compromise. I was unaware the moral was lower than 100 to begin with, I will look at that. Thanks for the feedback.
  11. I've tested and retested this scenerio so many times, I know it too well. I guess everyone probably has that problem. Can a few people try it out from allied and axis point of views and let me know if it's too unbalanced, easy, hard, etc? I need to know if this is the right or wrong way to design them. Hill 400 Scenerio (35 turns) Thanks, JacMac
  12. HAHAHA, Come on guys, he is trying to find a way to buy the game!
  13. Not if you are playing the Germans, the American tanks can drive through.
  14. Heh, I would have abandonded my mortar at the first sign of infantry or armored vehicles without the slightest regret, unless it was a 60mm. Anything bigger is too heavy to worry about. High angle hell, death from above!
  15. I wear blue pants, but only on Tuesdays. I think I don't remember the last time I thought that. When the justifications have been repeatedly verified, what other options are left? Something is wrong on Saturn 5. After all is said and done there is a lot more said then done. At the end of the day, we are very fair people, who shall pass judgement on what makes sense? The thread is dead...
  16. This is fairly well explained on page 99 of the manual. If your global morale falls <15% and the enemy global morale is at least four times higher, you will auto-surrender and the game ends. This was implemented to keep one side from having to chase down the last few units just to end the game. The Victory % indicator shows how much of the victory points your side has. When the game ends, the ratio of your % to the enemy % will determine how great your victory or defeat was. This is all explained on page 101. I guess I'm one of those people who actually reads the manual...
  17. If true, that would be an astounding bit of luck! Was there any artillery being fired by either side?
  18. In reality, mortar carriers and 81mm+ mortars on the ground would almost never be involved in front line combat. To me it is ludicrous to move them from any start position unless it is to retreat or simulate some action where they were caught enroute. The "Combat Mission" battlefield at the largest is too small to support mortar carrier advancements. I like the spotters much better, it's much more realistic (although the spotters should not be limited to a specific size or type of indirect fire). Mortars would direct lay on a target only in an emergency, and it's more likely that they would retreat before they did that.
  19. Don't worry, they are actually pretty quick, I got mine in about 10 days. Not as good as getting it from a store, but not 6-8 weeks either. If anything, I was more worried about the volume of people like me ordering the game and there not being enough copies in print. I guess they don't have that problem. JacMac
