JulianJ
I clicked on this as a new YT tank vid. Bit of mil porn...it was worth it for the laughs. It's clickbait. Nearly every line has something egregiously wrong. I'm sure many of you will spot stupidity I missed. Highlights: random footage of Leopards instead of the appropriate vehicle. Which tank should be competing in F1 instead of warfare?
Erwin
Always thought the Israeli Merkava was onto something with xnt survivability and space for 4(?) close defense infantry able to exit from the rear. But, presumably it's not designed for shipping to remote locations like the M1 for example. Reckon the S Korea tanks must be pretty good as they essentially live on high alert all the time. Cost comparisons: The Tiger I cost $100,000 in 1941 U.S. dollars. Adjusted for inflation, a Tiger I today would cost approximately $1,282,051 Each Tiger II produced needed 300,000 man hours to manufacture and cost over 800,000 Reichsmark or US$300,000 (equivalent to $4,400,000 in 2020) per vehicle. Also: Tanks of comparable role, performance and era German Tiger I heavy tank – comparable to IS-1/IS-85 German Tiger II heavy tank – comparable to IS-2 model 1943/44 and IS-3 United States M26 Pershing medium tank – comparable to IS-2 model 1943/44 British Centurion heavy cruiser tank -comparable to IS-1/IS-2 French AMX 50 prototype heavy tank – comparable to IS-2 model 1943/44 and IS-3/IS-4 Edited July 13, 2021 by Erwin
Artkin
I would consider the IS-2 1943 to be more similar to the Tiger I, and the IS-2 mid+late to be more comparable to Tiger II. Although the mid variant can lean either way. IS-2 mid added the D-25 gun which is nuts IS-2 late added the (much) improved hull which feels like 1.5x the protection now.
