Burried by Mods

Recommended Posts

I tried a search and did not get any hits, so I appologize ahead of time if this has been covered.

There are so many mods that overlay existing file names, that I am wondering if anyone has found a good way to preview and apply overlapping mod files. I'm using a PC.

Thanks,

Aloid

If I was you, I would just install the Mad Dog mods without the sounds and leave it at that.

They are an improvement. But if you play the game in the higher camera views, you won't notice much difference with all these new mods, unless it is a winter issue mod of course.

I suggest first applying Mad Matt's Mod Pack (MMP). This mod pack covers everything from vehicles to terrain and is of very high quality. Then apply mods for individual vehicles or terrain by downloading the appropriate 3rd party mod.

BTW if you don't like a particular mod you can always back it out by restoring the original BMP files on the CD. Just look in the zip file to determine which file number you need to copy over.

Tanks guys, tanks... there are probably fifty different versions of Tigers by now...

I'm just looking for a way to view them and choose the one I want at a particular time.

Mad Dog's mod's are in, and are great!

Maybe someone with MS Access skills could build a data base which would hold the different files, and launch Paint to view them. Any takers?

M. Bates, why would you skip the sound mod? I'm curious if you just like the original sounds better (which were fine), or have you run into probs w/ the sound mod?

I bit the bullet, and downloaded all 17mb of the sound mod on my tired old 56k dial up, and I love 'em. No probs running them either. I have most of the uniform mods, a few new tank skins, and, of course, the Kelly's Heros pics, but I skipped the hi-res grass etc becuase they were too much for my old PII266 VooDoo2 set up. Oh well.

Actually, regarding the Mod manager, I'm considering building a stand-alone Visual Basic tool to address this. Rather than being an Access DB, which would not only require all users to actually have Access but would also be rather large, I'm considering using some kind of directory/file management scheme to store locations of mods and swap them in and out of the appropriate directories.

The biggest problem will likely be viewing the mod in action, as simply opening it in Paint will only open the BMP, which would make it slightly more difficult to tell what the Mod looks like in-game than if there were an actual screenshot included with the mod file that could be displayed within the Mod manager. This would of course be difficult to arrange, as it would require a separate shot for every mod, which would increase the size of the mod packs substantially, not to mention complicating the distribution process. So I may just settle on displaying the BMP for now.

This Mod manager is still in the VERY early design stage and will be by no means a commercial-quality product, if I can pull myself away from CM to finish it at all! And there may already be one out there made by another user, in which case it may be easier to just use that one. Does anyone know if such a tool already exists, or would anyone be interested in such a freeware tool if I was able to put it together?

Actually I am also overseeing the creation of a mod manager and one of the things I encourage all Mod artist to do is to include a readme and screenshot so this can be utilized in a future Mod Manager as a browse feature.

Madmatt, you're probably much farther along in your mod manager than I am in mine. I'm glad to hear that you're encouraging users to include readme's and screenshots, as that obviously makes the management task much easier. What tools are you using to put your app together? Let me know if I can be of any help.

And for what it's worth, I'll continue work on mine if just for the experience.
