Variable turn limit...does it ever work properly?
Four Stringer replied to Omi's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
My butt just got saved in a CMBB Operation when the 20+ turn battle #1 ended right at turn 20. Whew! -
Grenade in a Tiger's hatch (SPOILER POTENTIAL)
Four Stringer replied to dangerousdave's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Don't forget that graphically, infantry units are highly abstracted. Perhaps the grenadier w/the grenade bundle had crawled in close (closer than 40m), and as his squad mates were geting pulverized, he took out the tank. Game on. -
I've got a PIII 700mhz w/256MB of RAM and a 64MB NVidia GeForce 3 card. I don't have any problems running CMBB; HUGE battles sometimes take a bit of time to load though. If you have a decent vid card, and get a bit more RAM, CMAK will probably run fine on your machine. I also keep my system pretty clean, so my system resources aren't hogged by unused programs running in the background.

*Operation Barbrossa Battle Pack preview*
Four Stringer replied to Pzman's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
"The pack might be released as early as October 3." Schweeeeeeeeeeeeeet! My birthday is the 2nd. Nice b-day present methinks. -

Well, I just took the plunge and ordered TacOps 4 ($25 is relatively cheap, but the time spent playing will cost me w/the wife). I've been a long time CM player and always meant to check out TacOps. I finally downloaded the demo Monday evening, buzzed through the tutorial and was hooked. I can't wait for the full version to arrive. Once I'm done dealing w/the AI, I'm sure I'll be getting whooped on by y'all (and hopefully dealing out a bit myself). Cheers!

Wav file question
Four Stringer replied to Four Stringer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Thanks! I'd nosed around a bit @ download.com, but didn't know which one would be good. -
Hola! I found a website which has some cool wav files of .50cal, vickers mg, etc. I'm pretty sure they've been extracted from Close Combat II or III. Anyway, they are in 8-bit stereo format, and from what I've gatherd from my search, these files need to be in 16-bit mono for CM purposes. Can anyone reccomend a freeware/shareware program which I can use to make these format conversions? I've never played around w/audio formatting before, so please excuse my ignorance. Thanks in advance, Mike A.

Why not answer, it 'll be interesting - I think.

Hola Blenheim! 40.1c (that's 104f for my fellow Yanks) near the sea? Ouch. It gets pretty steamy here in July and August during our "monsoon" season. Usually around 105-110f (40-43c) and the humidity goes up considerably (in the 40-70% range). Today is a very nice day here in AZ: 100f (38c), 13% humidity, no wind, UV Index is 10+ (off the scale, listed as extreme; means you get a sunburn after 10 minutes, and fried after 15 min in the sun w/out protection). Our office parking lot has no shade, so the interior of my car will be about 130-150f (seriously). Thank God for air conditioning. -

Scottsdale, Arizona. USA. I'm a native Desert Rat. Just so you know, it is legal in Arizona to pimp slap anyone who says "but it's a dry heat." (edit) some info for fellow weather geeks: Todays forecast high: 102f (38.8c) Todays forecast low: 80f (26.6c) Record high temp June(1991): 121f (49.4c) [ 06-27-2001: Message edited by: Four Stringer ] -

Hello, my name is Mike, and I am a modslut. I really dig the look of the mono-color yellow/sand camo patterns that Fernando has graced us with (specifically the SdKfz 250/251, MkIV & Panthers). However, I'm curious about the use of these color schemes; were they used by the Germans in NW Europe 1944-45? Or, was this yellow/sand color the "factory basic" finish over which other camo patterns were applied over in the field? I also dig John S's Tiger I mod in grey or yellow with foliage (I downloaded this one from "Der Kessel"). Again, were these mono-color schemes used in NW Europe in 44-45, or were most Tigers painted w/camo patterns by this time? I have a pretty good grip on WWII history, but my knowledge of the finer details of AFV markings & camo useage is pretty skimpy. Any information on this subject would be appreciated. Book reccomendations are greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance! Mike A.

So is this beast posted someplace? I'm a glutton for punishment (I played Crown of Thorns and maintained most of my sanity), and would love to play this sucker. Thanks!
