The DesertFox
Hi, Can anyone recommend these two books ? I´m wondering because many Authors refer to them or cite them. I have "Company Commander" and "Time for Trumpets" myself and found them a very interesting read. How do these two compare to them ? Last Offensive : United States Army in World War II the European Theater of Operations Von: Charles B. MacDonald The Mighty Endeavor : The American War in Europe Von: Charles B. MacDonald Cheers Helge ------------------ Sbelling chequed wyth MICROSOFT SPELLCHECKER - vorgs grate! - The DesertFox - Email: desertfox1891@hotmail.com WWW: http://www.geocities.com/desertfox1891
Frenchy
"The Last Offensive..." is a book in the series of the Army's official history of World War 2. It is a good book and covers the action in NW France and Germany. It does not cover the action in southern France and NE France. For that you would have to find "Riviera to the Rhine". ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
Sgt Steiner
Hi I have a Charles B MacDonald book entitled : 'The Battle Of The Bulge The Definitive Account' (published 1984 by Widenfeld & Nicholson isbn 0 297 78759 4) which is a superb volume well worth looking up. Guest Kinch
I have The Last Offensive and reccomend it. However I got my copy at Barnes abd Nobel when they had a bunch of the "Green Books" republished for sale. They did not have the detailed maps in the back of the book like the US Army seris does. I would get it directly from the Army web site to get the maps. - Kinch
The DesertFox
Thanks for the input guys. Sgt Steiner, I guess it´s the same as "A Time for Trumpets : The Untold Story of the Battle of the Bulge", that´s the one I have. A very interesting book, perhaps one of the best on this topic besides "The Bitter Woods" by Eisenhower and Tolands "Battle : The Story of the Bulge" Cheers Helge PS: Anyone who has someting about "The Mighty Endeavor : The American War in Europe" ? ------------------ Sbelling chequed wyth MICROSOFT SPELLCHECKER - vorgs grate! - The DesertFox - Email: desertfox1891@hotmail.com WWW: http://www.geocities.com/desertfox1891
Guest Germanboy
Can someone please post a link for the army bookstore? Either I am stupid or their website sucks in that respect (frankly, I think it is the latter). Cheers. ------------------ Andreas
kipanderson
hi, I would just like to add my support to those in praise of Charles MacDonald. He is my number one WW2 author. He did the business for real and writes a great account in Company Commander. However he is also a serious military historian of the top order. His only equal, in my view, others will differ, is David Glantz with his Eastern Front related books. All the best, Kip.
