IICptMillerII
MRAPs were designed specifically for Iraq and Afghanistan, and will not be used in any other theater. In fact, as the conflicts in both of those regions wind down, the MRAPs are being scrapped/sold off, not retained. MRAPs would not be deployed to Ukraine, either in reality or in the fictional scenario Black Sea presents, so it is highly unlikely we will ever see them added to the game.
Erwin
Just curious. I thought SOP was to mothball and keep equipment for the "next time". Are the MRAPS considered ineffective?
MikeyD
I'm working off vague memory but I believe they mothballed about 4,000 MRAP vehicles and scrapped the remaining 20,000 in the inventory. (My numbers could be far off). Ever since the beginning Steve had been strongly resistant to turning CMSF into an Iraq occupation sim. That was back in 2007, a decade ago, when we were still in the thick of it.
Erwin
Was just curious why so many would be scrapped unless they were ineffective. The AF keep all their planes for spare parts etc.
IICptMillerII
They aren't being scrapped because they're ineffective. They're being scrapped because they're a one use vehicle for a specific instance. 54 minutes ago, MikeyD said: 4,000 MRAP vehicles and scrapped the remaining 20,000 in the inventory. Off the top of my head, these numbers seem about right to me.

Dismayed at the waste of my tax dollars. Hell, they could at least give me one.

Erwin
Ok, so MRAP does seem to have some other serious problems as well. Makes sense. Altho' get a lowrider version and it would be useful in LA traffic.
MikeyD
MRAP (of a sort) does exist in the CM universe. The Canadians in CMSF NATO module get the South African Nyala (RG-31 in US service). Basically its an armored truck with all the combat ability you'd expect of an armored truck. A refreshed CMSF2 using game engine 4 is on the semi-near horizon. Edited December 7, 2017 by MikeyD
DougPhresh
My brigade has ditched all the RGs for LAVs. They were an emergency procurement for Afghanistan and not part of the regular battlegroup.
Boche
Ive used MRAPS in real life for sometime and honestly, they serve no purpouse apart from patroling roads. We use RG.31s and IVECO Linces. These later ones are slightly better but they both tend to be very dangerous to drive and tend to topple over. I wouldnt want to getinto a shooting war with them.
DougPhresh
Agreed. What worked for PRTs in Kandahar would not work in the Fulda Gap, and vice versa.
