Wacht am Rhein
Hi all, having decided to make myself a little mod to change the appearance of Waffen-SS ranks, I noticed that the order of the vanilla ones seems to be inaccurate. To make but one example, SS-Unterscharführer ("02" in game) comes apparently before SS-Sturmmann ("03" in game). Now, I wrote "apparently" because I wanted to ask: does the naming of the files (german ss rank 00, german ss rank 01, etc.) actually match the order in which they are used in game (i.e. rank 01 comes before 02 but after 00)? It may seem a silly question but I'm sincerely wondering as this appears to be a very strange oversight for a company which pays so much attention to detail like BF. I'd like to point out that I'm currently using Juju's Blitz UI which, however, I suspect doesn't mix the order of vanilla ranks. Thank you a lot in advance! Warts 'n' all
I can't answer your question, but i am glad that you raised it as I would like to know the answer myself.
c3k
Edited to amend my previous (between the ***s) and strike through it, since it was wrong. The game uses that "pip" on the collar to substitute for the small shoulder patch "star" which would ordinarily be used. If you look further, the bmps you skipped in your post would show the real pip. It has a slight underline on the collar tab. So, the right rank is used, in the right order. The graphic shows the pip-like device to substitute for the sleeve device. Still, a good catch, but not a "bug". More of a graphic/design choice. See the attached jpg. It shows how the game delineates the two different ranks. Compare that with the wiki page I linked, below (between the ***s). I hope that explains it. Ken ******************************************************** Well, using this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranks_and_insignia_of_the_Waffen-SS , shows that anything with a pip in it outranks anything without a pip. So, the 02 bmp is a "higher" rank than the 03 and 04 bmps. (Of course, I can't see any difference between 00 and 01 bmps: both seem to be bare black fields.) The game manual seems to have it wrong, as well. Cripes. Nice catch. ******************************************************** Edited March 5, 2017 by c3k
Wacht am Rhein
Thank you for the explanation, Ken - I must reckon that it makes sense, although the way they chose to display those ranks still leaves me a bit baffled (by the way, I was checking the same table you linked me, hence my bemusement by the game's graphical choice). However, to amend that and to make Waffen-SS collar tabs look like they should, I've made that little mod I was typing about in the OP. While I was at it, I've also remade the Luftwaffe ranks to look in the same style (plus a couple, small extras). I'm going to post it on the greenasjade site as soon as I register there, too. Cheers! Wacht am Rhein
Ok, I just wanted to let you guys know that my version of Waffen-SS (and Luftwaffe, too) ranks is on greenasjade.net for anyone who might be interested in using it (here). (also, sorry for the double post but apparently it's impossible to edit one's post after some days since it's been originally posted) Edited March 8, 2017 by Wacht am Rhein

I presume one can use em in all WW2 CM2 titles. (taking just BF's recent titles into account) Well, kind of. AFAIK, CM:BN has a different background in the unit interface (brownish instead of green) and so they wouldn't blend as good; nothing a little editing can't amend, though... As for CM:RT, they haven't added Waffen-SS yet, but then it will be of course possible!
SchnelleMeyer
Nice work on the ranks, I just wish you would correct the colour on the Fallschirmjager collar tabs as well. The tabs were color coded to branch. - Comparable to the Wehrmacht piping colors. - Battlefront got it wrong with the green color for Fallschirmjagers - Green tabs is for Felddivision troops. - Now did any of them fight in the Ardennes ? - Fallschirmjagers were designated Fliegende truppe and should be wearing yellow tabs. A bonus is that Yellow tabs would stand out with a nice contrast in the UI:)
Taranis
Hi all, Did someone know how giving the highest rank to a unit ? There is rank like Oberstleutenant or Lieuenant Colonel in the manual but i've never see one in game. For the Fallschirm collar tabs, according to me, a good idea will be to coloured those in-game and using a [tagged] like Ez or Juju made for their mods

Honestly I'd rather have them in yellow myself, too, but I chose to keep them this way even because Juju's ones are also green. Not that they can't be changed, though... in fact, I might add a set in yellow so that people could use the one they like the most. How about that? SchnelleMeyer
That would be great WaR! - I think there are more Fallschirmjager units than Luftwaffe ground troops in the game. At least I recon its more popular to play with paratroopers:)

Wacht am Rhein
Small update just to notify you all that I've tried to edit the LW ranks to the gold yellow colour used by the Fallschirmjäger but it turned out to be a trickier operation than I had anticipated. Nothing overly complicated, of course, but to do it properly I'd need some more time and dedication I can't spare at the moment. I'm putting it on hold, then, and will possibly resume the task in the future.
