pappagoat
Having issues with hex editing the textured associated with the model. Can't get it to work, model turn up all black or transparent in game. Are there any tutorials on which HEX editors are best to use, how to format and how to edit?
Kevin2k
I never hex edited things for this game, but for other projects I use xvi32 or HxD. I suppose HxD is the better one https://www.mh-nexus.de/en/ If you keep the string size the same you can't really go wrong. The resulting file size will then remain the same as well. Like change the string 'tank-turret' to 'tank-turre2' or 'tankturret2'.
pappagoat
aha ok I was wondering and playing around with string size so 'dutch-helmet' can't become 'us-helmet' or '...us-helmet' then. Kevin2k
Someone more into this should answer. But my suggestion would be: 1) Don't make strings larger then before. 2) If you insist, you can try making them shorter, but the unused characters should be filled with hex value '00'. So the new string together with the '00' characters behindit, is the exact same size as the original string. And then just try if the game accepts that, or not. I don't know.
LongLeftFlank
I regret my memory of the how tos has all faded since 2012, but it is entirely possible to remove sunglasses, chinstraps, backapacks, webbing, have troops wearing berets instead of helmets or go bareheaded, etc. by fiddling with the hex editor. No Python programming required. Ryujin was the guy who cracked the nut on this so that's why I referenced the old forum thread.
