A Canadian Cat
Awesome run down.Things get trickier when guys in your hedge row cannot see the next hedge row (due to a hump in the ground). I usually put that into the "get some help" category. Or go a different way. You can move into the field and use the hump but that means when your guys are shooting they have no protection at all so if you go that route you really need to make sure you have a lot more guys then the enemy.

You'd need at least 3 teams that can reliably and continously reach out and touch for each of the defending teams, I reckon. 2 to keep their heads down, while one rallies or moves. you might manage with 2 long range automatics, but you'd struggle if one of them got suppressed, and if your third element is SMG-&-rifles, and hasn't closed enough yet it might not be enough to suppress the defenders for long enough for the BAR/MG42/Bren team to get back online. Ideally of course, you'd want a couple of MMG/HMGs there to help nail that suppression lid down hard: the SAW-armed teams get the defenders' heads down long enough for the tripod-mounted MGs to get rattling, and then become the maneuver elements.
Sublime
Womble had an excellent run down. Id like to add that for US forces the 60mm mortars are best used in hedgerow fighting for direct fighting. Keep them with the main push, or where the biggest hedgerows you have to cover are. slowly move them up and let them set up. Target light unless its an emergency, otherwise they burn through their ammo too fast. Target light their RoF is slowed down a lot, they fire, wait till round hits, fire, etc. Its still enough anyways and they're deadly accurate. For the Brits their 2 inch mortars HE rounds arent anywhere close to the US 60mm. They dont have the ammo supply etc. However they come with every squad. They really shine with their smoke ability WP/Smoke. Use this to your advantage. when scouting have your 2 IN use the smoke to either cover assaults or to drop smoke on the enemy hedges to pull back from an ambush. After that shell em with the HE hopefully to kill some Jerries. Priority targets are 1. enemy mortars 2. Enemy HMGS 3. enemy MGs/ HQs. the HQs are iffy. Sometimes Id prefer to get the firing troops out than kill the HQ elements while others would prefer to get the HQ. If you have a good idea of the enemies your facing its easier - if theyre high quality troops just kill people firing. If theyre low quality targetting HQs is vastly more effective because this will cause widespread panic easily.
