kch001
Just a quick, dumb question... Are the battles in the battle menu also included in the campaign? I just want to make sure that I don't spoil the campaign experience by player the battles before. thanks
kohlenklau
Not usually in my experience. Sometimes you may see maps from stock scenarios and campaigns show up as quick battle maps. But it will not kill any surprises written in the scenario or campaign. Sometimes the after market campaigns or stock campaigns can be unpacked and then the individual scenarios rewritten as needed to be available as scenarios. But if you download them it probably says that in the description.
womble
Just a word of warning: if you are keen to not spoil the surprise, I'd recommend leaving the campaign until you're pretty competent with the basic troop handling commands and know at least something of what you can expect from various approaches. The campaings in CM are not the usual "Start 'em slow and watch 'em grow," fare of most computer games, and if you make a rookie error (like, to take a trivial example, losing a tank because you didn't realise it would just drive straight until it hit an obstacle) that is just to do with the game's "handles", you might feel justified in restarting a given game or turn without feeling like you're "cheating" (naturally a very subjective line to draw), but having pushed back some of the Fog of War, the surprise may be dampened.Personally, I'd recommend a few QBs or test scenarios against the AI (you as attacker; the AI's not the greatest maneuver general in the world...) or hotseat against yourself, just to get the hang of how the game pans out, and develop some SOPs for yourself. Or there's Bil Hardenburger's tactical exercises page, linked from http://community.battlefront.com/topic/110318-combat-mission-tactical-problems/which is using BN-and-modules, but might be instructive nevertheless.
kch001
Thanks everybody.. so best to start with a quick battle, then progress to the scenarios/battles and only then start the campaign., right?
womble
Thanks everybody.. so best to start with a quick battle, then progress to the scenarios/battles and only then start the campaign., right? After the initial "getting to know the gameplay" thing that's usually covered by the campaign in other games, it doesn't much matter, IMO, whether you jump into the campaigns or the scenarios... except that the scenarios might be something you want to play "sight unseen" against another human. Oh, and if you do jump into the scenarios, be aware that they too are not arranged in any didactic order, just alphabetically or by size, and small doesn't mean "easy" any more than "its codename is Aardvark".
A Canadian Cat
With the exception of the tutorial campaign - start there and then follow the path you outlined.
A Canadian Cat
Which is called "Bizerte - Basic Training" and there is a chapter in the manual that goes with it.
