Placebo
I was really surprised to see the Brits had a super handheld flamethrower "Portable Flamethrower Mk 2 Affectionately called the "Lifebuoy" by troops, due to it's circular tank, the standard Commonwealth backpack flamethrower has an effective range of about 100m and enough fuel for 10 seconds of use." 100m  unfortunately its only 30m in the game!
c3k
Hmmm, 100m certainly is a bit long. Thanks for the catch.
Toblakai
120ft = 36.576m http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamethrower,_Portable,_No_2 Or am I wrong?
Michael Emrys
I don't think I have ever seen any pics/movies of the Brit manpack FT in use, so I can't comment on that, but what I have seen of the US equivalent seem to show a range of 20-25 meters. A hundred meters is about what I've seen for vehicular FTs. Michael
Michael Emrys
This gives an effective range of 20m and maximum range of 40m for the US version. This give an effective range of 25m and maximum range of 30m for the German version. Wiki also has information for other nationalities, but those and the British and Soviet versions are the main ones of interest to us. John Kettler
Placebo, This is a combat reconstruction of an event in the Battle of Arnhem. It shows the Lifebuoy in action in a film ("Theirs Is The Glory") that had real Panthers in it and a burning King Tiger. Have done a lot of digging, and the British seem to have almost nothing on YT when it comes to man-portable flamethrowers. The combat sequence for the Lifebuoy vs a PB starts at 2:20. The excellent CanadianSoldiers.com has this and lists the range as 36 meters, the source of troop complaints the range was too short. http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/equipment/engineerequipment/flamethrower.htm Regards, John Kettler
Placebo
I was actually pointing out that the info on the Battlefront page was most likely wrong, because it states 100m. As has been pointed out 30m as seen in the game is correct.
