Apocal
I suppose this will get me laughed off the board but here goes..... What is PitS? Ive only been playing serious wargames about three years and Im too young (16) to know about any of the boardgames. ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
Preacher
Don't sweat it. PiTS is Panthers In the Shadows (Western Front)by HPS Simulations. They make some really good games. Graphics are horrendous and the interface is a bit clunky but the gameplay more than makes up for it (IMHO). Check them out at http://www.hpssims.com. Apocal
I should of named this thread "New Guy Question(s)" Ive heard people on this board talk alot about experience, but no-one mentions what different levels there are (excepting green and elite, which doesn't tell me much). Are there any in-between levels and what sort of bonuses do they give (ie Elite troops get a 50% bonus in morale)? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
Fionn
The levels are: Conscript: "Here's a gun and 10 bullets. Die like a man." Green: "Well son you've had 6 weeks basic training. Go out there with your poncho and die like a man." Regular "Well, you've completed advanced training and survived your first firefight. You may just survive this war." Veteran: "Well, you were well trained and have fought and survived battles which many of your fellows didn't. You're tough and hardened." Crack: " You've spent years fighting and killing. You know every little trick and are an effective killing machine able to rip through the enemy's conscript army like a scythe through wheat." Elite: "You are death incarnate. Tanks explode with but a glance of your steely stare and men topple to the ground dead out of sheer fright when you appear." Ok, it's a bit jokey but those are basically the way it works. In tests a platoon of elite soldiers can take out a company of regular soldiers and probably could take out at least two companies of conscripts. ------------------ ___________ Fionn Kelly Manager of Historical Research, The Gamers Net - Gaming for Gamers

guachi
BTS, I laughed at Fionn's descriptions and I think they should be included in the manual. Expecially the elite description. My favorite manuals are the ones that are enjoyable to read. And the most enjoyable ones invarialbly used humor to keep things lively. Fionn
There are also special game unts BTW: The "Moylan" unit gains a 200% bonus to all attacks and concealment effects plus he can use his special "hack spell" to teleport through the 3D map to anywhere on it. The Steve unit gains a 200% bonus to all combat occuring in woods and has a special small vehicle bonus. The Martin unit is especially feared for the fact that it buys all artillery and Jabos at half-price thus being the perfect Materialschlacht unit while... The Fionn HQ unit recognises ONLY units weighing more than 40 tons as tanks and panics at the first sign of artillery or air units. ------------------ ___________ Fionn Kelly Manager of Historical Research, The Gamers Net - Gaming for Gamers

Moon
Fionn, you forgot one special feature of the Moylan unit - it has a +100% bonus on tossing handgrenades into halftracks. I didn't mention it in the AARs, but it was Sgt. Moylan himself who knocked out Fionns HT in the town... Thanks, Charles
Apocal
LMAO I think I got a pretty good idea of what effects it will have in the game. (ie Watch my Conscript Ost Battalion scatter to the four winds from an Elite Airborne Half-Squad firing exactly 3 shots over their heads) ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. Apocal
I have yet another question Is there going to be music in the game? If so will it be used sparingly (ie Close Combat's opening drum beat) or used alot to give more atmosphere to the game? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill
Thomas Davie
Apocal; unless things have changed (which to be honest would not surprise me) there will be no music in the game. But heck, when people were being gassed there was no soundtrack, so I really don't see why there should be any in this game. Disclaimer; this is not said tongue in cheek (I don't play games to listen to music). Tom
Guest Big Time Software
Nope, no soundtrack. There are ambiant sounds in the game, but after about 1-3 turns, when the FUN stuff starts to fly, you won't be hearing those Steve
guachi
Ambient sounds like the mooing cow in CC2? I don't think I am the only one that wanted to be able to kill that cow. Jason
Guest Big Time Software
Hehe... I wanted that damned happy bird myself I don't know what the sounds are. My sound card is fried (thanks Floyd!) and on top of that I get my updates over the 'net, so the 150MBs of sounds is a wee bit too much to download at 28.8! One thing I *know* is in there is the sound of rain when, er, it is raining Steve
Apocal
Personally, I wanted the dog most of all Ok another question (and no, I don't lay awake at night thinking these up), when individual troops get hit, do they cry out (like "Medic!" or "ARRRGH!!")? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter." Sir Winston Churchill

Apocal
What are the ranks for the Germans in CM? I tried looking it up on Yahoo! and Lycos but I can't seem to find a site that has them all (Heer, FJ, and SS) and the insignia for them.
Foobar
If there are any home remodel specialists here, I need to figure out how to install build a computer cabinet in front of my toilet, I am getting tired of having to get up and deal with stuff like that. Needs room for a microwave and mini-fridge. While we're talking new guy questions, what is fow, and for that matter, can someone post at thread of all these darn abbr.? (that's short for abbreviations, but include ATAT) all the acronyms too...hehe ------------------

guachi
Apocal, Do a search on this board for ranks. I posted a message a few months ago with ranks of Germans, Americans, and British. The formatting isn't great, but I think you will be able to decipher it. Jason
Apocal
Thanks for the info. Took me about 45 minutes of searching to find it though Although I am still completely clueless about the ranks of the Fallschirmjäger. Could any clue me in? ------------------ "Battles are won by slaughter and maneuver. The greater the general, the more he contributes in maneuver, the less he demands in slaughter."
