Funny to read that analog computers were still used in planes in late 70s, a bit over 30 years ago and how fast things have developed after that.

To be fair to NASA: how often can you start a modern computer driven car once the system tanks without having to use a custom computer driven diagnostics tool ? There is a thing or to to be said in favour of solid state stuff in control of I/II gen electronics.

The Balck Buck bombing raids on the Falklands, using Vulcans (and Victors for tanking) were carried out with mechanical computers and a 2 quid calculator that one of the pilots had bought from a street market.
