Mord
Ok...maybe we can redo this thread without all the self righteous indignation, arguing and side tracking...maybe. LOL. Here's the the old list that the guys posted. With most of the attention going to Sicily at the moment I thought this nice TV documentary might raise some interest in Normandy again http://www.nfb.ca/film/in_desperate_battle_normandy_1944 It's a Canadien documentary from the early 90's but in my opinion it's clearly superior to many modern documentaries. What especially suprised me was how much it tries to really show both sides of the story. I understand it caused quite an uproar in Canada back in the day for being rather critical of the Allied armies actually. Anyways, I liked it a lot, so I thought I'd share. I reccomend War Stories It covers the fighting at Arnhem and, in the second half, the raid at St Nazaire. Here is one more I found. Haven't seen it yet but it's about the D-Day landing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHtRr7O9C_A&feature=related Here is a site with quite a few good documentaries and most are available for free. I have provide a link for the Wehrmacht documentary. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/wehrmacht/ I also watched the one about the Grenadier Guards which was also quite good. Here's one I found on the Ost Front. It's pretty hefty, with ten episodes, has a good bit of back story about Stalin and the Soviet Union and lots of stuff on the war. There are lots of eye witness interviews too. It's actually pretty depressing. I liked it a lot, though. Russia's War: Blood Upon The Snow...you can find all 10 episodes under this guy's channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/Gallant0?feature=CAwQwRs%3D Please add more. There are some real gems here. Michael Emrys
Yeah, Mord, that's setting the bar awfully high don't you think? Michael
LongLeftFlank
Hell In the Pacific, a BBC series from 2001, is interesting although its focus is largely psychological/individual, not military/strategic. And they're very detailed about Japanese atrocities, including those against their own soldiers.
