  1. @c3k Truth-- He's cleverly whittled me down to my last 100 Excalibur rounds-- and in the most remarkably diplomatic manner.  Did you know he sent a card and gift basket after those first riflemen of mine went down? A class act.  Now-- the gift basket was laced with a toxic nerve agent-- but he's assured me it must have picked that up in the post.

  2. Take comfort in knowing they weren't lost in vain though, the mere threat of Tunguskas is enough to keep me from blowing points on drones against the Russians.  I was beginning to doubt my decision until these guys showed up.  Any effects they produce are supplementary to their already achieved deterrence.

  3. SIGACTS--
1st and 2nd Platoon have managed to slink their way North unopposed into the industrial complex and have begun clearing operations.  They were stacked on the perimeter wall--ready to blast-- when I remembered American Infantry no longer carry breaching charges-- luckily there is a rail entrance on the southern end of the compound, which they moved through quickly.  3rd Platoon dealt with the rogue supply truck and its driver, and is holding together surprisingly well after the loss of Private Benjamin

Have just finished turn 17 against Kinohibernia.  There were two SIGACTs to report;  A Russian supply truck meandered into my forward line, driving straight through 1st and 2nd platoon and smack dab into 3rd platoon-- who has been caught in the open by an AGL.  The AGL fire has resulted in our first KIA, Private Benjamin, of Ohio.  1st and 2nd platoon have been ordered to ignore the supply truck and begin swarming the large industrial complex to their north while 3rd platoon has been ordered to crawl away into the forest where they will disburse and prepare to wage guerrilla warfare.

  5. The point of impact of laser guided munitions can be adjusted during flight, as was mentioned, with the optimum chance of hitting the target occurring when the target is near the center of the footprint, and furthermore having above 50 percent chance of hitting as long as the target doesn't deviate outside of the footprint.  The size and shape of the footprint are affected by the target cloud height, the GT range, visibility, and the angle of fire.

This is an example footprint template, an aid to assist the observer in visualizing the engagement area for a particular set of conditions.

Laser guided munitions begin to acquire the reflected energy from the laser on the downward leg of their flight, and coordination between the FDC and the Observer are required to ensure that the Observer can lase in the safest manner.  If there is a high probability that the targeted vehicle is equipped with devices that can detect and triangulate incoming laser energy, then a procedure called Offset Laser Designation is used, whereby an object or location near the target is lased to determine the initial aim point.

  6. BTW that vid is from Feb 2013, I was issued my first Vector in 2005.

I've been banging on about the lack of proper FIST gear in-game for a year, and am curious to hear what the rationale is for keeping FOs blind in all conditions save Day/Clear.  It was never really understandable from a Fire Support standpoint because it forces a dynamic in nearly every engagement that frankly doesn't exist in the real world, but the game's depiction of TRPs made it bearable.  Unfortunately TRPs are now more expensive for some reason, so the conditions that made it tolerable no longer exist and am finally at the point where I'd just like to understand the opposition/absolute silence.
