  1. I don't see a lot of talk about CTDs (crash to desktop)... You can take that as a compliment, however it does happen in my SP games once in a while for unknown and known reasons. I guard against this by constantly saving the game during a turn. Often when restarting a turn after a CTD I'll get negative dice rolls when repeating moves, or rather attacks when repeating what I thought were successful attacks before the CTD. So now prior to just about every attack I save the game, Yes this is time consuming, but I can see no other way around it. I found clicking black screens (such as supply calculating screens) is a NO_NO. Sometimes I get CTDs without ever realizing why? On these occasions I have to believe it may have been my computer doing some kind of update, ect. type of function that causes CTDs, that's OK in away, for I have experienced that with other games as well. Then there are times I'm trying to work the interface and perhaps unwittingly trigger a CTD, I'll have to admit I have not mastered all the nuances of this game, I'm just trying to keep them under control and not making the same mistakes that trigger CTDs. I don't know if a player can save games in MP? If not I'd be toast.
  2. Wil95, Enjoying your AAR, however, I have to ask if you are able to make larger more detailed screenshots? Thanks, Bob
  3. The posted screenshot below was generated from SCWWI--Breakthrough, read the other posts here carefully.. LukeFF here is an example of what I am talking about: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3904780 Just scroll down the posts to the full size screenshot... You will not find as detailed screenshot here as you do there. I'll add this: I did not know what it was like before with this forum, if it was worse than it is now, it must of really been bad before.. Bob
  4. Hi LanL! Read your post. Just where/who with this administration should I approach about forum issues (don't see names of forum moderators)? Am I to understand that the administration does not read it's forum posts? or replies to comments? One of the main reasons I bought a game at BFC was I understood that there was a healthy back and forth with the owners and customers, I'd sure hate to be disappointed if that isn't true. I've had some chat with the Fury Software people, however it sounds like they have no say over the forum software. Can't imagine they don't, since it is their products that suffer from not having customers to the games they developed not get the best services possible by way of the forums. There's something about "Status Quo" that needs to be cracked once and a while to get up to speed... Apathy is not the best way to do business, at least that's my point of view. If you don't respond I'll understand why... Thanks, Bob
  5. IanL, Are you someone who has a "say-so" with how this forum is managed? Or, are you someone like me except you have 6,350 more posts than me? 6,382 that's a lot of posts! The reason I ask is: I see an observation by you, but no offer of a solution. Again I do not know who is who here and will respect everybody in kind. I do expect ribs and do a little ribbing of my own, just to be up front on well deserved subjects worth the attention. I have been involved with several MP AARs at the Matrix CTGW forum, for which I have authored all if not most of them, relying on good quality of screenshots to complete each task (AARs take up a considerable amount of time in editing to complete). Use screenshots to help tutor, advise or bring attention to problem areas of a game, not only for my own edification, but for everybody in the community. I'm still learning SCWWI and Breakthrough to someday compete in MP here, plus produce the results of the matches through AARs, be it I win, lose or draw. It gives me a lot of time to contemplate the game at hand, for there is always something to be learned. I'd appreciate any support in getting the best forum tools available, be it a better system of producing screenshots, an open ended ability of editing posts that are not time restricted to changes, which is another issue with posting here, not necessarily what I am looking for with help at this time, regardless, should be looked at at some time. Enough said and enjoyed our interaction to date. "Dang it" have not heard that expression in awhile, Bob
  6. Hello Bill! Here's what I am talking about: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3904780&mpage=1&key=? Just scroll down the posts to a beautiful screenshot of your game. Wouldn't it be nice to have screenshots like that here on this forum? All the best, Bob
  7. Hi ShaneGreer! To me your photoshopped screenshot looks of less quality than what you actually had seen on your screen when the picture was taken, the detail does not look all that clear and the fonts a bit fuzzy. Nice try and suggestion. It was suggested to me yesterday to use photobucket, I did have that once before, however I was always bombarded with photobucket adds and whatnot all the time, plus it slowed down my computer from getting started while it uploaded God knows what (never did use it). Hey, I have been posting over at the Matrix Game forums for a few years now (amongst other forums). At Matrix you can do just about anything (nothing fancy) in paint to your screenshot, then use it in a post, that screenshot will be as clear and as "full size" as the screen you took it on, all without having to go to some photo service, a member does not have to leave the Matrix site the whole time. Now when someone suggests I have to go there to come back here with an altered "downsized" picture, sorry, that does not appeal to me... That might be accepted as the norm here, however I don't think it is of the best quality that could be achieved, the owners of the forum could do better. All the best, Bob PS, Shane here is an example of what I am talking about: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3904780&mpage=1&key=&#3920446 Just scroll down the posts to the full size screenshot... You will not find as detailed screenshot here as you do there.
  8. Hello IanL! That's a decent size pic (screenshot), however it looks photoshopped or reduced a lot from the actual on screen image, unless you play the game with a small screen. Here's what I am talking about: In SCWWI Breakthrough a player can take in game screenshots of jpeg or png quality using the F 11 or F 12 keys, then go into the OS to retrieve/or review the newly created screenshots: OS/program 86/Battlefront/SCWWI Breakthrough/screenshots. Personally, what I do is either send the selected screenshots to desktop, or send one at a time to paint, after doing whatever in paint, send the modified screenshot to desktop. Now those screenshots are ready to be posted anywhere, however, they cannot be attached in an SCWWI Breakthrough AAR or regular post in their present full screen size. This Battlefront forum does not allow "uploading" to posts in full screen size, forcing the member to reduce the size of the screenshot, which diminishes the quality of the screenshot. Much like your above screenshot (the information panel is barely visible). However, I can take the very same full size screenshot and use it in posts at the Matrix CTGW forum: Thread SCWWI There you see a post with a full size SCWWI Breakthrough screenshot in all it's glory, "NO PROBLEM", the screenshot looks absolutely beautiful! But when I try to use that same screenshot here in it's present form it is not acceptable in it's present size. To me that is a oxymoron, it's not right! Why allow members to take in game screenshots that cannot be used in forum posts as intended? Especially where these games make full size screenshots, it seems like such a waste to make members have to jump through hoops to post something that is an "inferior quality" picture than what they are taking an on screen picture of? I would think that Battlefront would show some Class to allow members to have full size screenshots! Gee! What does it take to complete a mission like that? (Maybe some initiative) Thanks for reading, Bob
  9. Does anybody remember when these forums were upgraded, or that the forum software had been enhanced? Recently bought SCWWI and noticed after taking screenshots during the game, that those full size screenshots would not fit into AAR posts (could not be uploaded), which I kind of felt was rather odd. Instead those screenshots would have to get photoshopped in order to be usable. I can't understand why the games at Battlefront allow doing screenshots which they know cannot be easily be used in forum posts. So I got to thinking it may be because the forum software is outdated. I can take a full size screenshot here and use it in a post at the Matrix forums, "no problem", (which I did at the Matrix CTGW forum--thread: SCWWI). However, I can not use that same full size screenshot here, an enigma worth fixing IMO. Let me ask this: "Would anybody be against upgrading, updating the forum software"?
  10. Yeah, I bought the game, but never downloaded it from the disks even after paying $100.00 for it, I think I felt bad for the developer and bought it to encourage Indies. At that time, I can't think of how many years ago it was, there was not a whole lot of Civil War or Napoleonic type games being released.
  11. Mr. Bill, Oooohh! I think you are being too nice to the forum software people! What can be done to kick their butt to get up to snuff? If other forums can do it, this forum can do it... Or, Is it something that costs you "Dinars" to upgrade the forum to accomplish a compatible f 11 and f 12 screenshot relationship with forum posts? Personally, I don't want to deal with a photoshop, I'd rather have everything to do with screenshots right here under one roof, there would no need to jump through hoops to do a simple task. I'm willing to bet there are many members here who would agree with me, they'd like to have a quality experience posting here too. Mr. Bob
  12. Hello Gents: Why is it that FURY allows a nice screenshot to be taken using F 11 and F 12 keys during the course of a game, but does not allow that full size screenshot to be able to be included with a forum post? Seems counter productive... Oxymoron is what comes to mind! Might there be an adjustment to forum attachments to allow these full size screenshots or an adjustment to the size of the in game screenshots (done automatically) that would be acceptable to be used in post attachments? Something seems to missing in the equation between screenshots and forum posts? Just thinking, Bob PS: After-all where do you expect that screenshots are going to be used? PSS: Posted one of your full size screenshots over at the Matrix CTGW forum in the SCWWI thread and it came out just beautiful, but cannot do it here. Does not make any sense????
  13. Kirk I can take a full size SS here dig it out of the SCWW1 (screenshot) folder to desktop and post it in all it's glory to the CTGW forum under the SCWW1 thread, however, when I go to do a post here with the same desktop SS (as an attachment)to a post here, I get a message that the attachment is too big, cannot complete. Is this what you are having a problem with also? Curious, Bob
  14. Three more things I noticed about switching after using the manoeuver : 1) Both units can attack after moving. 2) Both units can upgrade (surprisingly after moving)... 3) Both units can replace losses after moving. And I'll add this: When conducting the "Switching manoeuver" or I should say during the manoeuver "switching arrows" appear over the units a player is intent on moving, leaving NO DOUBT as to which units are being switched..
  15. Kirk, I don't know about that? However in the 1914 AAR pinned above this thread, there are some decent size SS (screenshots there, some look big enough to suit your purpose. Might that work for you? Bob
  16. It's not that I disagree with you, I'm just trying to figure a way to complete a thought or add to it, without making a redundant post containing most of, if not all of a previous post, especially if the post is a lengthy one including screenshots, ect.. Let me back up a little bit. For many years now I have posted frequently at both the Matrix and Slitherine forums (amongst others), these forums allow a member to edit a post at any time in the history of the their post. That's what I am used to being able to do, that's it in a nutshell, I'm just not used to being "Restricted" from having the freedom to edit MY posts when I feel it's necessary to at a later date.
  17. Yes, I've seen that edit when first composing a comment and I think before posting the comment, however after the comment is posted and someone like myself realizes the post may have been flawed, ect., or wish to add more content to the original post is not possible from where I am looking. My feeling is: There has to be a way to edit a post beyond a certain time period. Does that make sense to you? PS,, I just used the edit function (after posting) you speak of to do this PS. What I am getting at is: I have a tendency to do research that takes time maybe days that could enhance a prior comment, but might be better suited to just have it included in an earlier post, where because of other postings would have the new information "out of order" in a new post.
  18. New to the forum and would like to know "How to edit my comments?" Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks....
  19. Hello Kirk! I can only laugh with myself, when I see you are going on another venture. Good luck and hope for the best! Bob
  20. Hello Bill, Did as you suggested: That's when I realized I was not using the proper key for swapping! Numb-nuts (me) was using the "space bar" instead of "shift", must of been some sort of mental blockage to following instructions. All is fine now, and the function "switching" works in both SCWWI games. Did notice that some units can be switched more than once in the same turn, guess that has to do with available action points.. Thanks (and still learning), Bob
  21. Man, What an ugly Avatar! lol Yes, It was time to move on and try something new to me for the time period of WW I, bought TEAW some time ago, but could not get my head into that game engine, didn't really try that hard, maybe later. When I realized that CTGW had no future except for your upcoming MOD, I was crushed and angry, not just for myself, but for all the members who had tech questions of every nature that would go unanswered and not know the reason why they were being left in the lurch, I found that "very troubling". I just pray it does not happen here also.......
  22. Are there circumstances other than what I mentioned above, where switching is not allowed? Or can somebody point me in the right direction where this switching manoeuver is covered in the manual or a information thread that covers everything about switching? Thanks
  23. Can't get this switching manoeuver to work.. No enemy units are adjacent to either switching units, neither unit has moved yet this turn, neither have been given any kind of orders, reinforcements, ect., just updated to v 1.5 the other day and can find no other instructions (in Manual) other than yours on how to do switching. Tried this switching technique in both directions, tried to use both left and right mouse to see if that helped, no success. I've used this type of manoeuver in CTGW, so I know how it works, only there a player used the ctrl key to complete the function, plus flashing arrows (over the units) appeared to indicate the manoeuver. Any further suggestions here on how to do "SWITCHING" would be appreciated..
  24. Yes, going to give this a try! Definitely have had situations where this would be of great help. Hope it works!
