...isnt CMx2 the game that still does only support a single core ?
I have a AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955, overclocked to 4x 3.60GHz.
ArmA3, a very very very CPU heavy game runs perfectly smooth in Full HD and max/high settings with 4xAA.
Fact, the engine is old and awkward.
Fact, if your PC is not 5 years old (or even older) there is probably very little a hardware upgrade will do to your CMx2 performance.
If you have graphic/performance problems...better blame the engine first, your drivers second and only then think about the hardware...

Holy crap...what is your problem. I just mentioned a conversation that took place a few years ago. Are you always that aggressive in real world conversations too. You act like I am somehow defending some philisophical point.
I just mentioned that a discussion happened a few years ago....see I can use bold too.
Im no native speaker, im a german typing English text as good as possible...maybe thats why it sounds aggressive to you.

Well, multicams are extremely hard to render on a 3d soldier in scale. I don't really plan to remake any camouflage, I will just add some weathering to existing ones.
US Army is indeed next in line, Abrams first.
Great, maybe you can also tweak the color a bit, they just look too saturated and "brown".
-
No, it does not.
Dont talk about "low end" systems all the time as if someone with a "high end" system will not have any problems with the performance of CMx2 games.
The CMx2 engine is just a very old and awkward one.
Low performance and graphic glitches are nearly always the fault of the engine <-> hardware/drivers interaction.
Especially AMD/ATI cards are known to have driver and performance issues with the engine.
I have currently 10 games on my PC. ArmA3, Far-Cry 4...
Oddly enough i can play anything in FullHD with max. or high settings without any stuttering or graphic glitches.
The only problematic game is CMBS, but yeah...maybe i should update my "low end" hardware for the "high end" CMx2 graphics engine...LOL
"Ambush", new game, excellent/best, Blue side, 2 min. 40 secs.
Takes ~5 minutes for me.
Installed the game on my SSD for testing and it does not improve loading times at all so its clearly a AMD/ATI driver issue in connection with the CMx2 engine (textures).

DO you plan to do a uniform mod for the us side ?
Is it just me or does the multicam look awkward ?
-
There was some testing done in CMSF or CMBN with wind at 0 and then heavy wind. It showed some significant performance drop with heavy wind through the swaying. In fact, it has been asked for the swaying to be an option for low-end systems.
Again this has nothing to do with "low end" systems...its just another engine problem in connection with specific hardware/drivers.

I also would love to see more realistic NAF soldiers with gorka uniforms and helmets.

I think we are looking at two different but in this instance related issues.
1 how are buildings viewed in relation to cover - why would your pixeltruppen exit a building under artillery barrage and seek cover in the open?
2 what do they do when panicking.
Panicking implies a state of irrationality that I am afraid to even get in to what we can or should expect. This isn't just cowering or being suppressed, this is a reaction that simply says, my life is at risk right now right here, I have to do "something". That something isn't necessarily going to be smart.
Regarding buildings, my paras in Frosty Welcome were not in a panic state, they just apparently decided being outside was better than being inside. Consistently.
Again, Panicking in the military term is not a state of complete irrationality. It describes a state were the soldiers no longer care about orders or a victory on the battlefield, they only want to survive. This can get them killed but that does not mean that Panicking soldiers should show suicidal behavior, especially when inside buildings.
The "lets get out of the building and stay in the open" thing is really annoying...if the Tac-AI at least would navigate them into some other good cover...
-
I might no be commn sense but very likely it is the survival instinct.
I highly doubt that...
Panicking is just the word the game uses for a mental state that gives survival the top priority and no longer cares about orders.
You and I might see it that way. The guys in tha squad might view that building as a death trap and makke the completelyirraional decision to get out of there. They panicked and did something that turned out to be really stupid. That got them klled.
- Getting out of the building ?
Ok !
- Running towards the enemy where no cover at all is available ?
WTF !
- Choosing a spot with zero cover and direct LOS to a enemy T72 ?
WTF !
- Getting killed by a 120mm HE round from the T72 ?
Priceless !
That is not panicking, thats being on some bad drugs...
-
You also have to take into account the psychological effect of being inside a building, surrounded by stone walls.
Even if they think its not safe enough anymore inside the building, the last thing they should do is to aimlessly run outside without a clear idea where they will take cover next...and standing in the open while facing a T72 is not my definition of taking cover...
At least 2 squads committed suicide that way during my play-through of that mission, although there were more buildings and walls very close they choose to run to a complete open space with 0 cover...
-
I know that would be the first comment...
Does a professional soldier who panics loose all common sense ?
There is a difference if someone panics, runs out of a building and gets killed while trying to reach another building or if someone just runs out of a building into to open (and stays there !) where there is zero cover and the air is full of lead anyway.
-
what about your scenario loading times ?
-
Hi,
i just played a scenario where a small joint UKR/US force defends a HQ against a Russian attack, i think the name of the scenario was "Alexanders house" or something like that...anyway...
The russians had some BTR-80A with the brutal 30mm gun.
Throughout the scenario my men run out of buildings who got hammered with the 30mm gun.
The problem, there were enemy soldiers and tanks outside so the squads leaving the building got killed instantly !
If they had stayed inside the building they may have taken a few wounded but the chance of surviving would have been much higher.
In another situation a panicking soldier ran out of a building into another one, that ok, but then he turned and ran outside again into the open...facing a enemy tank !
He stayed there and awaited death which came pretty quick...
My point is:
- panicking squads commit suicide to often
Soldiers like solid stuff (trees/walls ect.) so they tend to cuddle with this kind of cover.
I understand that they want to leave a building getting hit by a 30mm gun repeatedly but why do they run outside, ignore two other buildings next to them and just run into the open towards the enemy.
A human reaction would be to stay inside the building and take cover, or at least have a plan like "we get into this other building" or "go behind the APC"...but not to aimlessly run outside into a spot with 0 cover...

I have a AMD R9 290. Works perfectly fine here. Fast and perfect graphics. No issues in any of the game I play.
Whenever the time comes to upgrade, I usually wind up buying a AMD card because they give you the most bang for the buck.
Driver issues come and go, NVIDIA drivers have had as many as ATI drivers.
Part of the problem comes from the fact CM uses Open gl while most games use Direct X.
How long does it take for you to load a normal size scenario with best/best settings ?
What about trees moving in the wind ? 50% performance drop ?
-
What do you think, do automatic weapons need to be nerfed a bit ?
Should lonely or isolated soldiers route faster ?
I would say yes.
The Formations (the "Death train") are much much tighter as in real life, also, soldiers always try to get to a specific part of that formation which results in unnecessary movement.
Then you have the "isolated shooter kills my whole squad" cases and you wander why is this guy still there, why does he still fight ?
Is he of fanatic motivation ?
-
BTW, the HD versions of buildings and roads installed fine (beautiful!), but I noticed some issues like missing building walls and weird border colors on roads when trying the standard versions. -Might wanna' take a look.
Yes, i get the same bug with the Standard versions, HD stuff works fine.

Generally, the first thing to do when someone is shooting at you is to shoot back. Thats something the TAC AI does not do very well.
They go down, crawl, take cover...but it takes too long till they return fire at known or suspected enemy positions.
-
Just dont buy a ATI/AMD card for Combat Mission.
-
Good question...

PM sent, cant wait to play with this mod !

Great job, they look top notch and the pdf file you added is very helpful !

I think you choose a bad angle for the comparison, otherwise...i would say the second one looks best.
