  1. Armor piercing rounds, today, generally are meant for tanks. They can go through nearly a meter of steel. They don't have any explosive filler. A high speed dart going through a Stryker wouldn't be very effective. (Sure, one or two guys will be jellied, but the vehicle would be mostly okay. Maybe. ) Far better to use a shell filled with HE (HEAT style). That'll reduce the Stryker to scrap metal spread over an acre or so. That's a huge difference in outcome.

Nevertheless, I've observed several times as 125mm round fired at Stryker or Bradley passes right though them and blasts something behind target.

So, it was probably AP round.

  2. I can guarantee that I'm better than some Russian fanboys, who are living in the dream world like "m829a4 cannot penetrate t90am since t90am have 800mm+ KE defense without ERA" , or "T90am's shells can penetrate M1A2 front armor at any circumstances". "M1A2 are greatly over estimated" . Obviously, some Russian fantasy world lovers believe that their hope can realized beyond the physics.  :)  :)  :)

Russian technological inferiority, specially about core science related with chemistry and material science, is the real and main point behind all the Russian weapon vs US weapons discussions. Just simple, Russian technology and science is declining in its quality and quantity, since all smart Russians try to escape their nation, and their economy cannot support such expensive projects. 1960s and 1970s were the good days of Russian science.  Let's see, and let's observe how Armata looks like. But if someone expect Armata as an ultimate doomsday weapon which can beat M1A2 SEP v2 and Leo 2A7 like a cake, I will not convinced about that.

I don't think that any modern tank can beat any other modern tank like a cake :)

Aslo, I don't think that we will get any reliable source of information about Armata, so everybody is free to imagine anything he likes.

  3. This is why Tunguska is such a threat in the game, autocannon fire is capable of getting into every little nook and cranny. The Russian's V-wedge forward armor kind'a implies a lot of downward deflection into the hulltop, one would imagine. I've found if the crew gets the least little penetration without knowing where its coming from they're liable to freak out and abandon the vehicle.

V-wedge forward armor is actually ERA blocks, they can't deflect 25mm round. Ballistic armour of turret behind it is coupola-shaped and can only deflect rounds upwards and to the side.

  4. I've heard verbal accounts over the years of 25mm DU ammunition getting penetrations on Iraqi T-72's during Desert Storm, although I've never found any documentation on the reality of that. I've always suspected that soldiers climbing on destroyed Iraqi tanks may have been looking at 30mm penetrations from GAU-8 fire rather than 25mm. I doubt even the DU rounds could penetrate frontal armor on the B models though, they have significantly higher RHAe than the Monkey models did.

But, nothing is bulletproof though so maybe your rounds hit just the right spot. I'd suspect some sort of armor modeling/penetration value glitch more than anything.

Iraq used export model T-72s and their own production "Asad Babil" wich was ever worse.

  5. Look where the hit markers pinged it on the actual model. It will show you. Although to what extent this is actually a thing is arguable. I have heard multiple times that "hit locations are arbitrary".

I've examined model very thoroughly, but failed to find any marks.

Look's like rounds were using quantum tunneling to get behind armour, paintwork was left unscratched :)

  6. First separatists' units were trained in Russia months before the conflict exploded. I think now their level of training varies but still it is far superior to Ukrainian militias.

    Could please you provide links?

It seems to be interesting reading material.

EDIT: As far as I know from unofficial publications in Russian social media (doubius source, I know) real support from Russia came no sooner than August 2014 for rebel counteroffensive.

  7. Yesterday I've played QB and My T-72B3 was frontally engaged by Bradley with it's 25mm gun. Bradley achived penetration in "upper hull" and killed driver. Crew dismounted in haste, but when it reoccupied tank later nothing was damaged and tank was brought back to action.

Actually, I was surprised that 25mm achieved frontal penetation. Is there any good map of weak spots as they are modelled in game?
