  1. On the other hand we might look at why many, non Russian Ukranians mightnot want to be under Russian control. The Soviet Ukranian War 1917 - 1921,, the Famine of 1932 - 33, the forced Collectivisation under Stali, the experiences of WW2 and the aftermat including the suppression of the anti Soviet Partisans. Russins will of course differ in their views of the same events and of course the Western view will differ as well. Maybe their past experience with Russia was a strong motivation for Ukranians to move away from Russia towards the West, Just as the experiences of Russian Ukranians in the past encouraged their move towards Moscow.

Ukranians and not united in their views and opinions. That is essential problem of Ukraine as political entity. People I know from Eastern Ukraine express strong pro-Russian sentiments while Western Ukranians of pro-Westerners.  So, when your are talking about Ukraninans your should be careful to mention what kind of Ukranians you are referring to :)

  2. Alexey I don't know if you are of Russian nationallity. I have no problem with that if you are. You are correct that media coverage alwayss has a degree of bias. So do histrians - and having a degrewe in History andPolitics this is something Ican understand very well. Take a history of the Battleof Waterloo for instance and we will see national bias for a start. Thegreat British cavalryy charge is seen by British histrians is seen as a glorious feat of arms by the British Cavalry. And they charged the French Grand Battery no less sabering many of the gunners. The death of Ponsonby at the hands of French lancers shortlyy after is considered, with, let us say, a very dim view. French historians would view the same events in a very differwent light.

We couldconsider events in Ukraine in a similar way. Thereare many facors to consider. Past history for  a sart.

Yeah, It is like Jutland battle. Every side says it has won :)

Right now we have too few hard facts and every of then is interpreted differently depending in who you are. There is not unity eveng among Russians. There are a lot of "pro-Russian" Russians and a lot of "pro-Western" Russians :) These to groups interpret same events absolutely differently :)

  3. I seldom even bother to listen to reports of ongoing conflicts. Even when the reporting is done with the best of intentions—and that is itself rare enough—the confusion and fog of war all combine to make it mostly meaningless as far as knowing what is really going on. You may get flashes of truth now and then and an astute follower of the news might be able to piece out a general outline of events, but a lot of what we "know" just isn't so. We are still learning things about WW II and that was ~75 years ago. Is it going to take us 75 years to know and understand what is happening in Ukraine right now?

    Michael

It's not only information that comes to us, it's also our own biases. The point is that it's all happening right now and I'am personally involved to some extent.

I have relatives in Ukraine and many people I know are from Ukraine. For example, workers that built my country house are from Lisichansk - a small town near Lughansk that saw heavy action. It affects the way I'am filtering incoming information and I perfectly aware of it.

  4. Maybe BF decided that Russian munitions are less accurate han US. I really don't know the answer to this one. But I would be interested in knowing more about Russian capabilities in this area as log as it is from open source material for obvious reasons. Of course, it could be that BF are just wrong as you suggest and this capability should be added/ But I don't work for BF so not my decision  :D

CMBS actually has precision munitions for Russian artillery. At least Krasnopol laser guided 152mm howitzer round is present in game and I've managed to call precision strike (finally).

IRL: Soviet Union and Russia has developed series of guided munitions for howitzers and mortars: "Santimeter", "Smyelchak", "Krasnopol".

    AFAIK, all are laser-guided.

  5. As a beta, I can assure you that assiduous care is taken to remove any nationality bias in the game.

However, some materiel is unproven. It would be the height of folly to accept manufacturers' claims as presented. Combat reports are much more important than glossy sales brochures.

Nothing is nerfed or buffed because if the emblem painted on it.

But how to obtain combat reports of M1 vs T-90? :)

  6. From the side it does penetrate fairly consistently, but it rarely knocks the vehicle out with one burst.

I have not done extensive testing on this, but I did do one run of 10 1v1s with the Bradly starting out side-on to the BMPs and buttoned up. Most of the Brads were able to pop smoke and retreat after taking hits. After 2 turns two Brads and one BMP were dead. Several of the surviving Brads had extensive systems damage.

The OP was probably a little unlucky to lose his BMP. If the Brad is buttoned they usually don't spot the BMPs right away.

I've tried this engagement ~10 times.

Every time BMP got all it's rounds hit and penetrate M2 side armour.

Every time BMP was spotted only after it successfully put whole burst into M2.

Once M2 was neturalized by destroying engine. All other times M2 got non-critical damage (like TOW or optics damage) and managed to fire back and destroy BMP.

  7. How long is "sometime"?  Long enough for your BMP gunner to reload?  It is unusual for the AI to only shoot a few rounds and then pause for too long.

    However...

It depends on the range as well. If the target is far aways It seems that the AI will shoot some ranging shots upon the first few shots and then once it is determined the shots are hitting their mark, the following bursts will be longer.  But that is only my observation.

BMP-2 gun doesn't need to be reloaded. It is fed from two belts containing all rounds BMP carry.

Range is ~500m, all rounds hit target. The problem is that BMP fires 5-7 rounds in first burst and then waits for few seconds. That is enought for Bradley to face is with turret/and or hull. Since that BMP is doomed.

  8. I have quite interesting situaton: my BMP has sneaked behind Bradley  and is engaging it from the flank.

But stupid BMP crew shoots only few rounds of 30 mm and then wait for some time to fire another burst.

Bradley is thick skinned beast and has high probability of surviving several penetrations from BMP cannon.

So it just swallows rounds and destroys BMP.

I suppose that prolonged burst would have much higher probability of taking out Bradley before it can fire back.

But how to make my crew do that?

  9. They could have moved, or depending on the type of missile involved it might not be terribly obvious who was carrying what, doubly so if they shot off all their ammo. A LOT of units carry missiles, keeping track of your own can be tricky at times. every single one matters . :)

When they shot at my BMP, enemy troop icon clearly said it was ATGM squad with Javelin.

  10. I'very finished another QA yesterday.

One thing surprised me. My vehicles were engaged with ATGM from distant forest. I didn't get there and finished game by capturing VPs. But when I reviewed map in aftermath of the battle, there was no enemy units of appropriate types. Only few scouts and HQ squads.

    How could this happen?

  11. This is true. Try commanding an MSV Company in person and attempting to pull of an attack without getting all of your force killed while they desperately drive in circles attempting to debus, or do not debus at all. Or drive their IFV across open ground toward the enemy to engage them at point blank range.

It is however satisfying when things do work. Like calling in smoke round artillery from the back of your bmp command track to ensure your inefficient pixelstrelki can drive in circles unhindered by enemy fire.

    "Pixelstrelki" - LOL.

New word for my personal dictinary ;)

  12. I suspect we might have one or two. Sure, they would probably say that the game is not 100% realistic. But then it can't be. t best it would amount to a playable simulation of reality. But yes, it would be fascinating to watch an experienced soldier, particularly one with command experience at comny/combat team level play and talk us through what he is doing. We would all very likely learn a few things.

Particulary it would be interesting to compare game style of player with real military education vs experienced player who has developed skills via gaming only.

  13. Of course, if I were to play against a real military professional I would in all probabiliy be soundly thrashed. Kind of like a decent chess club player going up against a Grand Master :D

Hm. That would be quite interesting to see, how real world commanding officer would play this game :)

And what he would say about it.

I've heard some feedback from real world pilots about flight simulators (like IL-2 or DCS), but still no feedback from real world commanders about tactical games :)
