  1. I know that the mdr files for helmets, for example, reference to the BMP that should be used (and probably a lot more). But, is there a file that references what mdr should be used for each type of soldier? I mean, is there an mdr that references both type of British helmet for a British soldier? How does a German solider know it must wear a German helmet, etc?

    Thanks.

I don't have my computer right in front of me, but from what I recall- and I'll check when I get to my computer, you need to replace the british chinstrap file with a translucent bitmap file, that'll invisiblize the chinstrap-- be sure it's actually translucent lest it appear white in-game.  Regarding the beret; your renamed beret to helmet files will still point back to the black AFV beret bitmap, so recolor that one directly and it should affect all the berets.

I managed to get the right beret editing the mdr files, thanks to the advice of kohlenklau that is coaching me on this. I will try that translucent thing but can bmp files be translucent?

EDIT: Thanks, I managed to do it and it's working like a charm!

  3. This is an old thread but maybe somebody can help me. I'm trying to give the British infantry berets editing the MKII helmet to be a beret. What I did was:

    - Copy all the smod_british_beret-afv files and rename them with the corresponding smod_british_helmet-soldier-mk2 filename

    - I edited the smod_british_beret-afv (now called smod_british_helmet-soldier-mk2) with a random color to see if everything was working fine.

    What I got was:

    - MKII soldiers wearing the standard Beret-afv, not my modified file with the new color.

    - Beret soldiers wearing chin straps!

    So, my questions are:

Why I can't edit the beret skin?

How do I go about removing the chin straps from the MKII or from everyone?

Almost forgot, I tried to edit the stock beret-afv with a new color, but the afv crews are still wearing the old stock berets.

    Thanks!

PS: I'm talking about CMBN, didn't realize this was the Black Sea section. Sorry.

Graphics stay the same when you look at tanks and soldiers really up close, but lower detail settings mean that stuff farther from the camera will lose detail. I also have a quite powerful computer, but I prefer to keep detail setting to "improved", which is just one notch higher than "balanced". Shadows and shaders I keep on, as I find them very important for the graphics, and also because they don't seem to impact my performance too much.

I have a different experience. With low graphics my pixeltruppen look jagged and the divisional patch is just a splash on their arms. With higher (Improved) graphics they look smooth and the patch is distinguishable.

    3. Buddy aid (already released as single mod at CMMODS III)

    9. Seat stance (the new one for half track passengers)

A bit of an Off-topic here but, do this things really affect the chances of a soldier being hit or spotted? The buddy aid for example, will the guy make a smaller target with that mod or it would be the same for the game only with a different visual for the player? How would this affect MP games if only one side is using the mod?

  6. SLIM, Thanks! The weather (and the whole battle) is in the stock game, we didn't change anything.

A co, I really suck using mortars and because of the low visibility I didn't see any chance to use the mortars earlier. I don't use any mods for sounds, at least I think I don't. Only graphics.

Feel free to critic everything that will make me improve!

  7. Also you can never take one instance in this game where something didn't work to your satisfaction and decree it as "useless". Try it 10,20 ,50 times.

Not the first time at all. I'm just talking about what sparked this argument.

Useless might not be the word, but I will repeat that it can be improved and it's far from optimal.

  8. When I say "grenade", I mean "smoke grenade".

I was taking fire, let's say from the north, the  enemy was not in grenade distance. I wanted to pop smoke between my troops and the enemy to disengage under cover. I issued a face command towards the north but my guy tossed the smoke grenade to the east because that just happen to be the direction he was facing when he was ready to throw the smoke grenade.

You can't choose how far away you want to throw the smoke either, so if you want to close a gap between two houses for example, you will have calculate it pretty good.

To me, the pop smoke seems like an afterthought. It could be greatly improved with a line of sight command just like the fire command.

  9. Yes, that works in ideal conditions, but if you are under fire and the grenade guy decides to reposition before throwing the grenade, then the smoke will go to wherever he was facing when throwing the grenade. And that's the exact situation that just happened to me before making this thread.

  10. I created a custom skin for a jeep, imported the tag file and now every jeep is using that skin. I thought I was going to be able to pick individual units and select if they should use the skin or not. Is this how it is supposed to work or I'm doing something wrong?
