I'm only going to touch on one of the things you mentioned:

Price: We've been around for 22 years. That's a long time in the gaming business. One of the reasons is because we know what we need to do to survive. We are able to anticipate with the number of sales for what we release. And we know how much revenue we need to keep the doors open, feed our families and live "normal" lives. From there it's a matter of maths. "We're gonna sell about X number of units and we need to make Y total dollars. So, Y divided by X will be the selling price."

That said, now that we have a few of the games on Steam the X number is different and the maths change. For instance, we do have sales from time to time now. Such as CMSF2 and Black Sea which are both currently on sale.

Any chance you could generate a permanent standard Discord invite for both? I can't these URLS to work.

The plan works perfectly. The Company and Regimental HQ T34/85s, each carrying infantry, move at full speed toward the houses ahead. No one fires on them. The other vehicles fire or engage targets of opportunity, like the infantry team that resurfaces far ahead of the JS-II. 1st Squad 3rd Platoon moves along KT1, sticking to the woods to get closer to the JS-IIs and 2nd Squad.

On the distant right, in a pall of smoke and dust, you can see the knocked out T34/85 just before its crew abandons it.

Arriving first, 3rd Squad jumps off the Company HQ T34/85 and rushes into the nearby house. It will provide cover for the men, but equally important, it has windows that from the upper level will give great observation deep into enemy territory.

As the second T34/85 arrives, taking cover behind a barn previously blasted by a JS-II, a panzerschreck team is discovered among the trees and shrubs between the barn and the nearest enemy-held house. 3rd Squad 2nd Platoon is in the house behind the barn and marked by the diamond.

To my surprise, the HMG team that fled earlier from the JS-II’s large HE shells reappears, not far from its original position and opens fire on the squad in the house. They duck, and sight of the panzerschreck is lost. Not good.

The cowering infantry took some casualties from the JS-II and remains rooted to their tiny patch of grass.

The men of 3rd Squad 2nd Platoon are ordered out of the house to quickly locate the panzerschreck team. The moment they step out the door they spot them and open fire. I keep both tanks on the far side of the buildings.

With the exception of the shadows graphics artefact linked above, it runs great for me on my base model M1 Pro 14". Definitely better than my previous 2016 MBP.

On non-CM related matters, do you have the spinning beachball show up occasionally at odd moments? I've had finder, or messages, or other apps seem to freeze for 10-30 seconds now and then. I had this on the older computer as well but I thought that the newest one, with the newest OS would not.

I tried searching on this topic, but I only found those who virtualized windows on Apple Silicon and got it working.  Has anyone got it working (Red Thunder/Fire&Rubble) under native Apple Silicon using (I assume here) Rosetta2?  Does it run well or is it inconsistent?  Running a Macbook Pro M1 Max, which is the latest machine from Apple.

I'm running all 7 CM2 games on my MacBookPro M1Max and they work really well. Thus far I've found only 3 issues:

    1. Sometimes the game takes a bit of time to start, with the icon bouncing in the dock for 10 -15 seconds.

    2. The graphical anomalies mentioned above caused by enabled Shaders. I play with Shaders on and don't see it happen often so it's not impacting my enjoyment.

    3. The turn loading screen is blank - so when one loads a turn instead of getting the graphical representation of how many % the turn is loaded, it is blank. This apparently started with Big Sur but I didn't install Big Sur on my previous MacBookPro so I am going by what other beta testers have told me. Again, this is not really an issue. The computer is so fast that I don't sit and wonder if something is stalled due to long loading times, the loading times even for huge maps and battles is quite reasonable.

  5. 58 minutes ago, Ultradave said:

That started with Big Sur. I have a Mantis report in on it. Both that loading screen and the calculating turn progress bars are missing and have been since the Big Sur update. It's an OS thing and not an M1 issue.

    Dave

Thanks, Dave. My old MacBook was unable to update past Catalina, so I didn't install Big Sur.

What is interesting is if one goes in the scenario editor, it will give me a progress on loading the map in 3D. Just not PBEM turns (and presumably any other turns). I have to look again when I get to the end of a turn to see if it doesn't do that. I took 4 turns yesterday and I didn't notice that but I wasn't paying attention.

    Bud,

I accidentally found that you'd resurrected this post of the AAR.  I'm very happy that your wife is doing well.

Thanks for continuing this battle.  I am still enjoying it - no problem with delays.  Take your time and do it right.  It's always a treat seeing your work.

    Gary

Thanks! It’s good to see some interest still in this. I know it’s a long time since I started it and I really don’t expect a lot of engagement at this point but I want it to be complete at least for the folks who discover it later on and start at the beginning.

    Thanks for following along.

Kudos to your opponent if he pulled that off with a Marder.

One of my favourite 'things' from my early days messing in the editor was a variant of the demo scenario 'Monster Mash' where I swapped out all the Panthers & Panzergrenadiers for regular infantry, Marders & StuGs.....Playing it as the Germans was incredibly challenging, but every kill really felt like it counted.

Yep, it was a Marder. He’s a cagey customer, he is.

    Clang!  WTF?  Noooo!  :o

I know! I foolishly hoped that the way this was all unfolding that I’d not take any tank losses. I suffered considerable infantry losses earlier but it’s all tapering off as I find my enemy’s units and bombard from long range. I hoped I was going to spot his Marders and take them out as I kept seeing them show up. Ah well…

While 1st & 2nd Squad 3rd Platoon remain in the woods on KT 2 in case my opponent sends AT teams to attack my bombarding tanks, the nearby BA-64 armoured car, along with the one of the two JS-IIs, continue to lay suppressive fire on the trees and houses ahead. You can see the target orders, aimed at areas where I have contacts and haven’t fired on thus far.

One JS-II is not given any orders, leaving it free to reacts to any targets of opportunity, or more importantly, enemy armour.

The Regimental HQ and company HQ T34/85s, loaded with 3rd Tankodesantniki Platoon HQ, 3rd Squad 3rd Platoon and 3rd Squad 2nd Platoon, start rolling toward the houses at the edge of town. The tanks and armoured cars bombard their targets, including the infantry hugging a fence line behind the first row of houses.

I’ve suffered not a single loss on AoA 1 since the start of the battle.

Nothing is ever easy on A0A 2. Nothing.

While waiting for my moves from last turn to finish, including infantry and tanks repositioning in the woods to the right, off-camera, 1st Platoon HQ T34/85 reacquires the German infantry unit still trying to creep more into the centre of town.

@Bud Backer  I just stumbled upon this AAR, saw your name on it, and got excited.  It's given me something to read while I relax next to my campfire.

Thank you for taking the time to do this & keep it going.

I'm glad to hear your wife is well; cancer is a terrible & unpredictable thing.

    God Bless.

     - Chip

Thank you very much, Chip, that's very kind of you.

There will be more to see in the next day or two as I have a number of screenshots prepared and accompanying text written up, as soon as I finish fixing the picture links to the older posts. I'm down to the last two pages of the AAR and then the new material will resume.

They do seem comparable on kill per minute but this looks more a function of rate of fire, a semi-automatic pistol being much faster than a bolt action.

    Exactly my point:

But it is important to remember that this is not saying a pistol is more accurate at that range, just that it’s RoF overcomes it’s inaccuracy relative to bolt action rifles.

Must say I’m glad someone with actual experience looked at this.

  12. Based on anecdotal information, I would be inclined to agree. But it is important to remember that this is not saying a pistol is more accurate at that range, just that it’s RoF overcomes it’s inaccuracy relative to bolt action rifles. How true that is, I can’t say. It seems slightly counterintuitive, but I’ve often seen that when one really gets real world data what we expect and what truly happens are not always the same.

PS: tests are invaluable in gathering data, but it’s also important to remember that they are modelling one specific situation: what the tester designed, and that situation may be uncommon or even extremely rare in real battles. How often does a single man with a pistol face a single man with a rifle, both with no cover or concealment? Compound that with the fact that this number (kills/min) is derived from thousands of such encounters, which tends to make what are actually a great number of outcomes distilled into a single number that we see as a singular possibility rather than the full range of possibilities.
