  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UR-77_Meteorit it's own charge. OOPS. others gave the answer while typing.
  2. There's one more, unlikely but not impossible, explanation: that is was a freak accident. That the truck blew up through a technical issue or carelessness. Probably not, but if it was an accident, it would be a blast.
  3. Sciencefiction turned into reality.. Amazing footage.
  4. Something else.. There's still a lot of units, on Rus and Ukr side, with the AIR or AIRMOBILE designation, but can it be said that this war indicates that dropping troops by air is outdated? [Sorry if I offend any (ex-)para's .]
  5. Yes, I agree. But I think he is gonna be a hard-*** on Crimea. It's like the monkey grabbing candy from a glass jar. When taking the candy in his fist, he cannot get his hand out anymore. There's only two solutions: give up the candy (Putin giving everything back), or hit the jar on a rock so it breaks (further fighting and/or nukes). Monkeys are smart enough to let the candy go..
  6. Turkey's minister of defence: "Russia ready for cease-fire". Crimea, as mentioned by a lot of people already, seems to be Putin's last straw..
  7. Start of every daily briefing Putin received since 24th of feb: Generals: Good morning, mr president! Putin: Hello, sit down and start with the positive news. Generals: ... eh... That's 220 days of bad news in a row, and the end isn't even in sight.
  8. Saw some footage of Putin today. Am I the only one who thinks he might be under the influence of some kind of drug? I don't do drugs, but I have been working for years with alcoholics, drug-addicts, drug-dealers, and schizophrenics (all of them drug users). I have seen many a time how people change when taking drugs. The way Putin suddenly lost his fear of Covid, kept moving constantly (even while standing still, he seemed extremely energetic, like his body wanted to move; needed to move), and his uncanny good (totally ridiculous considering the situation) humour, indicate to me that he was under the influence of something.
  9. Missed a few reactions while (interrupted) typing my last post, but if you people really think nuclear war is a desired option, you scare the **** outta me. Big time. You do not know what you are asking for..
  10. This blows my mind. We only see some of these unbelievable video's, but it looks like this mobilization-f#^k up is all over Russia. If this doesn't fuel some kind of revolutionary action, I don't think anything ever will..
  11. With no Putin-putsch in sight (as far as I am aware), this mobilization-escalation, and the prospect of a long war/stalemate, the EU and US attitudes seem even more important. Vital, maybe. IMHO president Biden has handled this situation pretty well so far. But next month he turns 80 and if he suddenly falls ill, or dies, Kamala Harris takes over. The information I have read about her so far makes me a little nervous about her presidential capabilities. Does she have what it takes?
  12. The way the debates are going makes me wonder if we'll reach page 1400. Would be a real shame if this thread gets closed.
  13. One of the best sentences in this thread. It even applies to us, the forummembers.
  14. Dutch newssite just now: "Ukranian paratroopers at Donetsk airport"-rumours, as well as possible Ukrainian attack in Donetsk area. Could this be the third prong? Or fake news?
  15. Elephant in the room? If there is going to be a collapse of the Russian Army, be it only at Kherson or near Kypiansk or on a much bigger scale, I suspect that the chance that the Russians will resort to the use of a tactical nucleair weapon increases considerably. Nobody wants that, I hope, but I have an ominous feeling that the Russians (Putin) won't swallow a massive rout easily. And somehow will retaliate. What happens if a tactical nucleair is dropped? - How big are those booms? - Will one tactical nuke suffice? - Is it very useful against a fluid Ukrainian Army? - Will it make a real difference on the battlefield? (Not talking about politic repercussions or Nato retaliation).
  16. This move from Putin does remind me of Hitler taking personal command of the German Army in december 1941, when he believed he could do better than his generals. It didn't work out very well for the germans, and I don't think that Putin will do better for the Russians.
  17. In my experience big booms are not unlikely to turn into even much bigger booms. I am totally amazed that bystanders keep filming those explosions at distances where I would be running my ass off to get away.
  18. Since the Russian army is trying to get every Tom, Dick and Harry to the frontline, they most like scavenged guard-units too. And I bet they thought that this airbase would be a safe place, so security may have been (a lot) less than required. I tend to think this airfield-attack was Neptune, but would it be possible that the Ukranian army had it's own version of the WW2 Long Range Desert Group/SAS? That they infiltrated that airfield and blew the place up? Probably not, but it would be even more sensational..
