Maybe BF startpage should also mention that CMSF2 is available now - not just preorders??

They like to do soft launches for a few days without advertising on the front page.  I'd imagine anyone who was interested would have heard the news through social media by now but I'm not actually privy to Battlefronts sales figures so...

  2. Up and running, had to go through the same process as CptMiller above.  Keyed in all my keys including the patch 2.0 and now everything is up and running.  CMSF2 with the latest engine updates is lots of fun.  After playing around a bit I'll have to find some online opponents.  Hopefully the 4.0 patches will be out soon for the other titles. as well.

  3. Like Dom and Rex said.  Or to put it another way.  Any bug found before a product goes live can be handled in normal business hours, any bug (crash bugs in particular) have to be handled immediately.  The normal registration issues and CC/Paypal payment issues are not something I would have to be working through on Thanksgiving day either.

  4. Is that NASA rate per launch, per items in a launch?  If the former it is 1 in 10 thousand launches has a problem, if the latter then every launch has multiple problems since there are more then 10K components that make up a space vehicle.  I can see why the telecom industry wants it higher, I'm assuming they handle millions of calls a day.  So even that failure rate is a lot of failures in a day - kinda like the old joke about being one in a million in China meant there were 1000 of you running around the country (heck - even in the US it would still be 350 of you)

    Ramble mode off.

  5. And if games are expensive to make and require anticompetitive pricing - then maybe the business model of said developer is messed up?

I can guarantee you Battlefront's business model is messed up.  The product they labor over is a niche one so no matter how good it is the target market is small.  If they took that same effort toward a mass appeal game they would make a hell of a lot more money.  I thank them for sticking with CM.

Very simple: By making the game check that it makes the flee move order towards the friendly map edge. Or, a bit more advanced: By making the troops flee in the direction with least known enemy contacts (maybe even weighted by distance, type, and how recent they are).

The WinSP game series does the route toward friendly map edge and it is not a solution.  It is worst in scenarios where you have units on two sides of the map for a rescue type situation but it pops up often in straight up fights too - units routing into the enemy that got around them.  The routing from known contacts may work.  Or not routing toward a known contact ever, surrendering if out in the open with no way to rout without breaking that rule.
