I don't really understand how a standardized WW2 TO&E got intertwined with a fix for this bug when it's been known about for over 2 years and Engine 4 users have already had to endure the wait for CMSF2 before the fix was supposedly "just on the heels of its release".

In my opinion (that and a dollar won't get you a cup of coffee anymore, maybe a thimble of coffee though) BF has been tying too much into each patch.  I think they said the same thing further up in this thread and that future patches would be more limited - but then again maybe not.

This is possibly the best advice ever offered here on these forums. It certainly is the best post ever on one of these "why are we still waiting for X" threads. How come his post does not have 10, 20 or 200 up votes? My mind boggles.

Was that too snaky? I might have broken my new years resolution. :D

Arty I could live without but in the game I was playing troops jumped out of a trench when being fired on by machine guns - and they were not broken or panicking.  Machine guns in general is something that is hard to play a CM game without.

quite a number of rather minor issues had been reported from players the recent times, So I´d guess (and hope) BFC goes through them all and check for validity and do fixes if necessary. If that takes the time we need to the see the patch, I´d be willing to wait even longer, also considering current V4 is fully playable with no true game breakers IMO.

Not in mine.  Jumping out of perfectly good trenches with arty falling all around is a game breaker.

Beside me, retrieved this summer prior to a house sale, are two boxes containing my ASL collection (full set of mounted boards for the original series). Also in there is the game that set me on the path for that and to end up here: Squad Leader. It had been years since I'd seen the stuff.  My first thoughts when looking at it were:

    1. God, this stuff is cool!
    2. I don't remember the print being this small. How tiny the counters are! Oh, man, I need a zoom key...

The newer stuff is written with a larger font.  Very few actual rules changes (you could easily play it with the first edition rules still) but the needs of the fan base are factoring in to the reprints...

Amen to that brother, Amen to that. (or "So Say We All" for the nerdier folks).

After all these years I still get a kick from remembering the guys insisting that ASL and it's ilk were SO much better and entertaining than any wretched computer game, firing up CMBO and watching their jaws thudding to the ground...

Plenty of ASLers who HAVE seen CMBO and were not impressed as well.  The experience of reading through hundreds of pages a rules written in legaleeze cannot be matched with a computer game - though the depths to which some here plumb the internals of CM via repeated testing is pretty unique too.

  6. Talking about blanks and not firing at close range since they are still dangerous.  My friend was in the army in the eighties and told me about an exercise he was on, they gave him a flare and said to fire it at a vehicle since it was a "LAW".  They DIDN'T tell him to shoot it up in the air and instead he aimed it at an APC that was going by.  The REF chewed him out a new one he says.

How long b4 hospitals start doing the same thing?   "Sorry, you went to an unapproved doctor, your insurance is now void at this hospital."

Insurance has been that way for 20-30 years now too.  Not Hospital specific per say but managed care limited you to a set list of doctors - which is the same thing.

As for cars, I remember when changing a headlight involved unscrewing the old one and putting a new one in.  Now it requires special tools and usually taking apart half of the bumper.
