CM:BN Screenshot Thread #2
A Canadian Cat replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Oh that's odd. I just saw them as grease guns but now that you say MP40 they clearly are. I cannot imagine what would cause that. Perhaps a patch install issue. I wonder about a mod problem but it doesn't feel like that. Did you recently install the patch? If so can you verify that the .exe file has a date close to the patch release date? You could also try putting your mods aside (move the directory) just be be sure. -
Hi i need help with a map
A Canadian Cat replied to Darkdragon1998's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
No, that should not be the case. I have used maps for QB that have no plans at all. All you have to do is manually pick it and... Yes, the type of battle does need to be set for the map to show up when you try to create the QB. So if the map is set to a meeting engagement and you want to use it in a probe QB you will need to save a version of the map with the probe battle type for it to be a selection for you in the QB list. -

What happened? There was a forum sw update from the provider the other day. There were some issues that were being ironed out. I hope what you are experiencing is temporary. Perhaps try again once the black on blue quote colours have been changed - that's one of the problem that was being worked on. -
LOL, I didn't even notice that I should have wondered about that until you mentioned it. Thanks for checking though.

I am aware. There must be some additional content management going on. When I switched my site over the be fully https it was really just a matter of setting up the certificates and the redirects (so http requests went to https instead) and I was done. Everything being served up on each of my sites was just covered by default.
-
Interesting. It is the most important for sure but I'm surprised the rest isn't just by default. Good you checked though.

I just visited and it did use https. I did see, on some pages, a warning that some images were not severed up via https. The log in page was warning free as was my account and orders page as well as the cart. Nothing serious.

CM Shock Force2 v2.03 patch has been released.
A Canadian Cat replied to BFCElvis's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
So, sounds like the differences between the two modern games are based on the RL technical differences. That's a Good Thing(tm). -
CM Shock Force2 v2.03 patch has been released.

Probably not but possibly. Lots of models in the game were tweaked including the soldiers. So, the majority of those mods will not. There were changes in the UI too. I think the only thing you can do is try the ones you like and see if they work. First question what are you trying to hit? I have not had occasion to use them much in CMSF but in CMBS they work quite well. To deal with a MBT I usually call for three rounds for an IFV two is usually enough. It is not unusual for one or two to miss the actual vehicle. For IVFs close is normally enough while for a MBT you need one to hit if you want it more than just immobilized. -
CM Shock Force2 v2.03 patch has been released.

Yes, that should work. Uninstalling the product should leave our game saves under my documents alone. If you want to be extra careful you can go to your saved game folder (<your drive usually C:>\<your name>\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Shock Force 2\Game Files\Saved Games) and copy the campaign's save somewhere else on your HD. After the uninstall and reinstall you should find that the contents of that folder remain unchanged. -
2 player turn based missing replay option
A Canadian Cat replied to SwedenJens's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Agreed. I think the network mode gets the least use which means the least attention. Which is not a good feedback loop. -

Like you would expect. You can replay the turn view as often as you like. -
2 player turn based missing replay option
A Canadian Cat replied to SwedenJens's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
There is no rewind in at 2 player net work game. I strongly suspect that is what @SwedenJens and his friend are doing. Correct me if I have that wrong. It is a sad limitation of the network play mode. -
Good advice here in this thread. I'll add my 2c - I like @Bozowans overwhelming force idea but you have to make sure that you are using that force with full information. If you just rush in and then discover that there is a strong force in the woods things will end very poorly. I tend to use split teams and use leapfrogging hunt movement. Once I find some enemy then I try to get as many fire teams shooting at them or near them as possible while another team waits a bit before assaulting them. But this is done where I can find an enemy team that I can isolate at least a little. I'll break contact in other places to concentrate on one location. Remember that if you find the enemy and pull back a bit if they decide to come at you then all the problems we are dealing with become their problem. I find breaking contact in the woods very effective.

That is a really good point. Sure, also a good point. To be honest my concern would be too many people giving up on the challenge early and blaming the game. This is not an easy game to play. I know lots of people have complained about the UI but I'm not even talking about that. I mean the game is hard to master. If you have good tactical skill and a reasonable mastery of the order system you can still get your backside handed to you. And getting those first two things takes a lot of play. We all have read (or even authored) a post about how I lost my favourite unit and therefore the game is broken. I personally am done with dealing with that. I hope to spend some time on forums helping new people out but I'll be ignoring those kinds of posts. My hope is that there will be lots of good questions that we can help with. I hope BFC finds lots of excited and interested players.

My epic Stug III fail
A Canadian Cat replied to John1966's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Ouch that's quite a story. Those Cromwell tanks are fast! Key hole is the way to handle those turret less guns. They need protection on both sides and and a nice narrow cone to cover. Longer range also helps - even those Cromwell tanks can't cover those distances fast enough. Of course you don't always get that opportunity so you have to make do.
