  1. Hello Erwin, thank you for your quick reply. That confirms what I've already understood so far. Thank you. Still one scenario is a bit confusing to me. Maybe I can just explain this by a small example: I got a sound mod package which includes some (at least for my understanding) specific sounds (like a G43 sound) and some "generic" sounds (at least referring to the name of the file, e.g. "gun assault rifle". So my question is what does the program do if there's a specific sound file for one specific weapon for example and another sound file which refers to a whole weapon "category" in which the specific weapon mentioned before is already included. Does it use the specific sound for the G43 when fired in game or does it use the generic assault rifle sound? I think the answer would be clear if there's a fixed number of sounds for every weapon for example. So then the program would try to find a specific sound for each weapon until it can't find one and then switches to the vanilla sound. I know it's a bit complicated but maybe anyone can understand my question. Thank you!
  2. I'd like to compile my own sound mod for CMBN (and CMFI as well if possible) by re-arranging sounds from the various awesome mods already available in the repository. However I still have one question that I wasn't able to answer myself by reading the varous posts etc.: I noticed that the various mod-packs consist of totally different numbers of sounds etc. So I was just wondering how the game "knows" which sound file to use in case not every e.g. weapon has it's own sound file in the mod-package inside the data folder. For example I'd like to use several files from Mod 1 and Mod 2. In Mod 1 package there is a sound called "gun 7 assault rifle" which is not available in Mod 2 package. However in Mod 2 package there are two soundfiles called "gun g43 1" and "gun g43 2". So is it possible that "gun 7 assault rifle" - as a "general" sound for assault rifles has a conflict when several specialized files for assault rifles per model (e.g. G43 as mentioned above) are available? I hope my question is halfway clear? So is it neccessary (regardless of mod oder original game files) that every weapon etc. has it's own sound file? Or will some e.g. weapons be represented by a "general" sound file? Geez, the text is a bit complicated I guess. But maybe someone can shed some light. Thank you very much in advance!
  3. Considering the unwillingness of the German population to accept the fact that the whole country actively supported or silently accepted the Nazi regime, its crimes and the war of aggression even after a total defeat, I think would've been catastrophe if the war had ended before the final blow. It was absolutely neccessary to fight it to the bitter end. The fertile soil generated after the end of WWI is the best argument why it was of paramount importance to totally defeat and occupy Germany.
  4. Hey Moon, thanks for the reply. I tried again and now it seems to be working fine - at least the download. I'll try the installation later and report back. Thanks!
  5. yeah, that would be awesome. however i don't think that will happen ...
  6. See this thread. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a patch for the retail version any time soon - "thanks" to Excalibur Publishing (already tried to get in contact with 'em - without success...). http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=100550
  7. Thanks for the reply. I was just curious if there's another way to get the latest patch for the retail version. Really disappointing to see Excalibur Publishing's lack of interest in customer support (at least they could've answered my message).
  8. Thank you very much for your help! However, I wasn't able to find the appropriate file - the latest patch available on the Excalibur Website is still 1.04. Any ideas? Could you provide an alternate download link?
  9. Hello. Is there any way to get the 1.04 or 1.05 retail version patch anywhere else than via the Excalibur Publishing website? 'Cause the patch file on this website is corrupted. It's been 3-4 weeks that I wrote an email to the support but never got a reply. The file's still broken and I don't think it will be changed any time soon. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  10. Thanks Hubert for your reply as well, really appreciated. Looking forward to the patch for an already awesome game.
  11. Hi Segei, I think you're right regarding the version numbers and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one with this question. Mainly I was asking because the website still said my version of the game was outdated... Thanks a lot for your reply!
  12. Hi there, I just tried to install the hotfix for the game. The installation process finishes without any error messages. However, the version number of the games remains 1.0 and the update function still says that my game was outdated. Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
  13. I don't think that it's very fair and construtive to go over the top like that. I just tried to make the point that - if you're using two (2 - yeah, that's about 50 less than 52) different systems (not a very uncommon scenario in the age of mobile computing I guess) to play the game - it's not unbelievably unrealistic to spend all four available activations in case you e.g. upgrade to a newer OS or something like that. But if reformatting a slow Windows (which is just a matter of time until you HAVE to do it) or installing a new one makes me an idiot - so be it.
  14. Okay, regarding my last post about the need for several activations: I just wanted to point out that it's not only a strange theory that in some cases you could need more activations than there are available from scratch. In my case I installed both games (Global Conflict & The Great War) on my desktop and on my laptop. Due to my job and my private life I have to travel a lot during a month - so I'm glad that I can also play the games on my laptop. So if I - for whatever reason (in my case it will be an OS change from XP to 7 on both systems) - have to make a significant change in the Windows OS, I'm already out of available licenses. I just wanted to make the case that it's not only a wild theory that there can be scenarios where you HAVE to reformat and reinstall the whole system. And everyone who uses Windows knows what I'm talking about when I say that you're forced to whipe the system once in a while in order to keep it running smooth and steady. So it's not only those kind of weird "all my harddisks broke" scenarios... I really understand that it's necessary to protect the IP and to make sure that everything works within the terms of the EULA - but I also think that the customer should've the freedom to decide when and where to install the given number of parallel activated licenses (i.e. 2 for these games). So I really prefer the previous elicense system for that. However, if it is possible to contact the Battlefront helpdesk in order to explain an exceptional case and get a license "back" - then I'm okay with it.
  15. I too feel a bit nervous because of the new licensing system: I bought Global Conflict as well as The Great War. I (as everyone does I think) immediately installed both games just after the purchase. However, I have to re-install both of my PCs (Notebook + Desktop) for a change of the OS (from XP to 7). So all of my four available install "tickets" are gone. But - in the long term (i.e. 3-4 months from now) - I'm planning to replace the hardware as well. So I won't be able to install the games on my new machines then. So what solutions (if there are any) do I have for those kind of scenarios? I guess I'm not the only one with this concern. You have to admit that it's only a question of time until you have to re-format and re-install a Windows System nowadays...
  16. Thank you, Moon! But this fixed exe is only necessary for online activation right? Just to make sure that it's not necessary to re-install the original version.
  17. Thank you Hubert for your quick reply! I'll advertise it over here in Germany as much as I can cause I think there's still plenty of people who have been waiting for those kind of strategy games a long time... Again thank you for this whole series!
  18. Just a last question concerning the fixed executables: I'm now downloading the game a second time - now the fixed online activation is included, right? And I noticed that my retail version was shipped a day ago or so - will that also be the fixed version already? I just want to make sure in case I have to re-install the game in a few weeks on my new PC. Thanks again for your help and this great game!
  19. So, it finally worked for me with the manual activation. By the way: I've installed the game two times - on my desktop and on a notebook. However, I might have to get a new PC in the next few weeks. What do I have to do in order to get one activation "back" to be able to install the game on the new PC as well? Is it enough to just uninstall the game or do I have to unlicense it somehow? Thanks for your help, I have to confess that I'm a bit overstrained with this license system...
  20. If I got it right, the license key (the one without dashes) is for the download-link only. Once you've downloaded the game you have to start it in order to get a generated "authorization code" (one with 16 numbers + dashes between). Then you have to input both to get an "activation code". I got an activation code on the website by using the manual function. However it doesn't work at all.
  21. I now have three (yes, three) different codes, of which none is working for activation.
  22. I just downloaded the game with my license key. However, once I tried to start the game I have to input a license key and an activation key - both of em seem to be invalid (so says the message). Please help.
