  1. Thank you for proving the point. Which instrument do you play? Got to be woodwind.
  2. Some people just miss the whole point of the post. The issue is not about complaining and getting things fixed which is what the forum is suppose to do and thankfully does. It is about a minority of people on the forum who attack anyone who speaks out against the game. It doesn't take long for the bandwagon to start rolling. I had hoped it had crashed. Leave the moderating of post to the moderators, not the self proclaimed forum henchmen. I believe the Mafia use to recruit here but that could have a rumor. I didn't say I didn't like the game and I'm not in a position to spend a total of $80 on it and just be on my merry way because it doesn't work as it is suppose to. I stopped playing because of the bugs which most of I've found out about on the forum. The game has potential as did CMSF when it came along. I really enjoy playing SF and have a lot of fun with it. I expect I will do with BN as well. As a final point, I'm not interested in how other forums are run but there are a lot more friendlier games forums out there where people try to help people and don't reach for the AA canons as soon as an issue is raised or raised more than once. People have a right to complain if they are unhappy with the product just as people have a right to be delighted with their purchase. I'm delighted with my purchase because I've looked ino my crystal ball (previous purchases) and I am almost certain the game will be patched/fixed. Nothing in life is certain, except here sometimes.
  3. WW2 Steel. You are wasting your time by coming on these forums and dare to complain about BF or anything they produce. As soon as you have raised an issue you will be jumped upon by the sworn defenders of BF. This image holds some truth as this is what will likely happen to you if they find out where you live. These same people would buy a sh^££y stick if it had the BF Logo on it because they all know by looking into their crystal balls that BF will remove the Sh^£ later. You should have known this by "trying the CMSF demo". Oh wait, I thought it was a different game unless there are some Syrians dug in near Carentan. Watch out for the T-72. You will be ok as long as you keep a tree between it and yourself. They have had three years to get it right but still it the buyers fault for not checking out the other game first so you would know what you were buying. Always remember the first rule of the forum; search all the posts dating back to the year dot before you raise any relevant concerns. That way you will avoid the condesending "This has already been discussed, blah, blah, blah" comments. Set aside at least an hour or two to do this. Remember you don't get this time added to your life expectancy. See image. I like posts like yours. It lets me know what is broken in the game as I have stopped playing it until it is patched. Thank god for CMSF. Those three years were worth the wait. Love it. Best course is to wait and see if the game is finally patched to standard in three years then maybe the fan boy brigade will cut you some slack. Until then remember the second rule of the forum; baton down the hatches. Post only applies to a small minority. Small being the operative word as it appears to have gone over some other people's heads.
  4. The whole point of Market Garden was to "End the war by Christmas" so in that respect it was a spectacular failure as the war in Europe dragged on for another eight months at the cost of many more lives. Did the men of the combined Airborne forces die in vain? In respect of their overall objective and the SNAFUS during the planning I would say yes. 1st AB Division was effectively a spent force that never saw action again. The fact that the operation was allowed to go ahead despite intelligence reports of German units refitting in the area, not "old men on bicycles", shows that egos were more important than sound military judgement. The true prize of MG was not the Bridge at Arnhem but beating the Russians to Berlin. Eisenhower had his letter of resignation prepared on the eve of D Day incase he had to say "Well we stuffed that one up, your mates died in vain" Were the gains of MG worth the cost? The debate continues!!!!! It is a very sad fact that civilians die in wars, less so now thankfully. I'm sure the Dutch might have thought the cost "acceptable" had the plan worked as intended. It did not and the Allies took months to eventually get across the Rhine at the cost of even more lives from all nations.
  5. Yeah, who else is going to hold your beer? Re MG: was it a bridge too far or too far from the bridge? Market Garden was a disaster yet Montgomery still tried to claim it was a success. Any good commander should be able to stand up and take responsibility for their failures as well as their successes. I suppose the true meaning of teamwork is that you can always blame some body else and as any military man (or woman in these PC times) knows, $h*t rolls downhill. Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, perhaps summed up Market Garden best. He said, 'My country cannot afford the luxury of another Montgomery success'. Anyway, despite your views either way, it is still a fascinating subject.
  6. Hi, So does this mean that if we hold off on pre orders that the modules will be available for purchase from the European warehouse, although at a (considerable) delay from the initial release? Certainly the best option as far as I can see.
  7. You will probably have been charged on the $80 value that BF marked on the customs form and not the actual $60 value of the item. It has been a bit of a lottery here in the UK who got charged. I have been asking if the modules will be getting shipped out from Germany after the initial pre order but no one from BF has responded. I have an idea why not but I could be way off the mark. I would certainly think twice about pre orders and just wait for the hard goods to become aviailable from the European warehouse. I was one of the lucky ones who escaped the customs charge, did not expect to as I usually get caught, but if BF are only going to ship out of the US and not Germany in the future then this could become a very expensive collectors edition with modules if you want them all. Personally I think buying just downloads and burning to a backup coaster will ruin the look of the collectors edition, others may not. I bought the steelbook with the intention of buying all the cd/dvd add ons. Others may be happy with the one "proper" disk and manual. Each to their own.

  9. Hi, Sorry to bump this up but just wondering if some one from BF has an answer on this. Just really need to know now that the Allies have got a foothold in Normandy if there is a danger of the German warehouse being over run and all supplies being exclusivly sent from the US irrespective of pre order or not. Damn U-Boats can really push the transport cost up. As I said, having bought the steelbook I do intent to buy a physical copy of the modules as a shiny backup coaster will have very little look and little value, to me anyway. I appreciate that download and backup is prefered by some. Not getting much time to play at the moment anyway as I have two new CKCS puppies in the house which are taking up almost all my free time. Not complaining as they are great fun. Hoping to have more free time by the time 1st or 2nd module is out. Many cheers. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  10. Hi, Received my "steelbook" or "steelbox" edition surprisingly without customs fees although I am shocked about the people, mainly London it appears, who are being shafted here in the UK by Parcel Farce. My question is about the future purchasing of modules. Will these Cd's/DVD's be available to be shipped from the German warehouse at some point after release? If this is the case then I would be inclined to hold off buying until this option was available. I realise this would be much later than the the initial release of the module(s) due to the transit times from USA to Europe and the customs procedures you have to go through which causes delays etc. Would it be possible for BF to still allow those of us outside the US to pre order download and physical to take advantage of any discount and get playing sooner but wait for the physical copy to be posted from Germany? Having bought the steelbook edition I am more interested in buying a physical edition of the modules but the risk of being ripped off by HM Customs and the (mainly) Post Office might put people off. Do I feel I will be lucky second, third or fourth time round? Anyway, apologies if this has been covered before and I have missed it. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  11. Hi, I'm currently playing the demo using an Nvidia GTX260 bought a couple of years ago to replace the two Nvidia 512mb cards that came with the rig using the latest drivers on an old AMD 64 FX60 Dual Core chip. Two previous cards had died. The demo is playing far better than I had though it would with all setting maxed out except Vertical Sync off. 1920x1080 @60Hz. Pretty smooth so far. I put it down to the video card as my processor is hardly cutting edge now but it shows that some older systems appear to be able to run the game quite smoothly. This is the demo though and the full game might be different kettle of fish. Bigger scenarios!!!!!! A decent card seems to make all the difference in CMSF and CMBN (so far) to me anyway. Your milage may vary. I would recommend Nvidia but I am not an expert and am only going on how the game plays on my system. Horses for courses. I'd weigh up the pro Nvidia versus pro ATI comments and make a decision. Best bit of advice is to buy the best card you can as with anything, you get what you pay for. I was tinkering with the idea of upgrading my card again but I'll be waiting until I need to buy a new system. This one does me fine just now and appears to be still going strong. Anyway, buy the latest today, it's obsolete before you get it into the car. No plan survives contact with the next turn button.
  12. Hi, As long as BF send the game by USPS then it should arrive through normal Royal Mail. I was going to ask if BF were using DHL but this hopefully clarifies the situation. Still going to have to pay VAT (which I can live with) and the hostage money to Royal Mail to get the game though. It's the overpriced Post Office "admin" fee that really annoys. The upside, if there is one, is that there will be no customs duty to pay as the value of the goods is below £135. At least that is how I interpret it. Please correct me if I am wrong. Don't want to mislead anybody. Some people may be lucky and and a few slip through the net. If it is sent by DHL though, then expect a huge ransom note from them. No plan survives contact with the next turn button.
  13. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I want the SB edition but resent the potential cost. Do I feel lucky with customs? The VAT charge isn't really the killer, it is the robbery.. I mean "admin processing fee" of the PO/Courier that ticks me off. They might as well deliver the game wearing a mask and on a horse called Black Bess. Before I make a firm decision on whether to cancel or not, what will be the situation with the hard goods modules? If these are going to incur the same charges then it is just not financially viable to get the game. I really hate DL only as I like having a hard copy, something that may be of value in years to come (backup coasters have no value), and was really looking forward to the manual. 14. Hi, Found this •For European customers you order is being shipped from Germany, UNLESS: ◦the order includes a book or poster ◦the order includes pre-order items (those always ship from our main US warehouse) ◦the order includes an item that is out of stock in our EU warehouse I have pre ordered items from BF before which have been shipped from Germany. No reason to expect anything different this time. If this is indeed going to be shipped from the US then it's going to cost you a lot more than you thought unless you are very lucky and it slips through customs or you live in a country where the Post Office or carrier don't gouge you on "admin fees". Unfortunately the UK have VATman and Robin(g) PO to contend with. Holy cash cow!!!! Wham, bish, bosh, give us your DOSH. Just a quick edit to any of those in the US who could potentially be getting the game at 50% less than those outside the US, we don't need "It's your own fault" posts. If your getting the game at the price you thought you were paying then great but there are probably going to be a lot of disapointed people who will pay way over the odds for this game. If I had wanted a DL only I would have bought a DL only but I thought I would support BF and get something that would be worth keeping. More fool me. If everybody outside the US didn't buy the Steelbook Edition then we probably would not have had the announcement that stocks were low. I could be wrong. 15. You are reading this correctly which now means that if the customs decide to add on VAT it is going to cost approx an extra £8 in VAT and another £12 in UK Post Office Handling fees if it comes through the normal Post Office route. I am not sure if DHL charge a handling fee for processing through customs but the UK PO certaily do and make a lot of profit from it. Some clarification is needed here as this has the potential to turn into a price too far for me. I cannot justify the potential of paying approx $110 for a game with S&H. I'll cancel and just stick to CMSF. As all other games bought from BF had been shipped from Germany there was no indication that would not be the case here. Telling us now is no good. I do not buy anything that involves me getting hammered by UK customs and the Post Office. Been ripped off by them too may times. No plan survives contact with the next turn button.
  16. You have already paid for the goods. The S&H charges are separate. I wish I could find a job that paid $10-$15 for packing envelopes. Any vacancies? It appears that this "standard charge" is basically win some lose some depending on which game you order. Somebody might not buy the next big manual heavy game so they are subsidising the next game. Each game should be priced based on actual (plus slight profit) charges. I could, and have in the past, accepted what I considered high shipping because I had something worthwile to show for it. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  17. Ah well, try to help and...... Your original post read as if you were expecting more for your money, ie a manual. I've been happy with BF too as I have always admired the quality of both games and hardgoods in the past, that is why I keep buying their games, but in this case I feel let down and overcharged. I feel have paid for the game twice and have nothing to show for the extra charge. Each to their own. Some people will pay way over the odds for something if they think it is worth it. Personally I don't think this effort has been worth the double cost. Who knows, maybe this forum is full of secret millionaires. Everyone has an opinion on what they regard as quality. There are people here who will love it and others who will not. As usual it is the ones who do not that are set upon because they dared to voice their opinion (complain). Anyway, you will need to print the manual yourself. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  18. Maybe if BF had used the $15 they made on the $20 shipping charge you could have got a manual. Check the envelope to see the actual postage charge which incidently was not sent by DHL as advertised but by normal German post. The actual cost may vary slightly depending on where you live. 3 Euros to UK = $4.50. In effect, if this applies, you have paid $25 for a download and another $25 for a cd only in a jewel case. Best thing would be to try to return the hardgoods for store credit and burn the download to a cd then print out the manual at your own expense. Moon stated in another thread you could return the hardgoods if you were unhappy although I am still waiting for a reply. But watch out, don't complain about feeling let down too much or you will incur the wrath of the BF faithful. Most of whom will add nothing to the thread except poor attempts at humor and try to make fun of you. Watch this space. Just for the record, the module is good, the hardgood quality for the price is not. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  19. I am quite prepared to move on as the only people who really mattered in this discussion have addressed my concerns. But there is the queue of people I spoke of starting to get personal because someone dares to post anything less than praise for their beloved BF. If you post a response you are ranting. It does appear you are only allowed to say nice things on this forum otherwise you await the wrath of the forum elite. The fan boy brigade have been called to arms and it is time to smite the enemies of BF. Yet again people comes on these boards and try to belittle and make a fool of people who post, usually adding nothing to the thread other than personal attacks. Funny they are not. The secret to being a comedian is to come up with new material now and then. Too many times the attacks are personal and then the thread gets locked, removed or the original poster is threatened with expulsion because they dared to stand up to the attacks, but the people who get personal, the fan boys, go unpunished. Just because you do not agree does not mean that the person posting is wrong. If you have something constructive to add without getting personal then please post. If you don't then pass the thread by. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  20. Hey MeatEtr, Thanks for proving my point. Maybe you and Echo Delta can hook up and swap pictures of babies on the internet. Did you get that one from him or vise versa?
  21. To all the guys who are happy at paying for nothing special that they could have burned themselves on to a cd and saved $30 I am really happy for you. Knock yourselves out. Download & hardgoods in this case is just a waste of money, nothing worthy of the extra cost. Next time you want to waste $30, put it to better use and give it to any Armed Forces charity. If you only bought the download then this issue does not concern you. If you bought the hardgoods only because of your preference and are happy with what you received then this doesn't concern you. To Moon, I will not unlicence the downloaded game I paid for but I will gladly return the hardgoods that were misrepresented for a refund of the $10 & $20 S&H. Image of a cd only in a jewel case, still can't see it. Next to an image of a DVD case and British Forces insert this is stated You can download and play immediately! Hardgoods - consisting of a CD - will be mailed out within 2 weeks. No image or mention of a jewel case. No reason to expect anything other than the DVD style packaging and cd similar to the Marines module which to be fair is a quality product. Just as you all have a right to come here, post and be over the moon (pun intended), I have a right to be unhappy if I am with something. As soon as any complaint is made here is is jumped upon by the followers who think BF can do no wrong. I have bought many of BF's games and always been happy with the quality. This is the first time I have felt really let down by the quality of any hardgoods on offer. I stated that I do enjoy Shock Force and it's modules. My problem is not with the quality of the game but the quality of the recent hardgoods. If I had only bought the download, which I wish now I had, there would be no problem, but the hardgoods have been misrepresented. This has nothing to do with being a "neat freak". If you are happy with your cd and jewel case then great. I didn't come on here and make snidy comments about the people who were happy and tell them they should not be, but if you are unhappy then there is always a queue waiting to tell you to lighten up and be happy, tough luck and so what. There is a recurring trend on these forums of people who always jump on anybody who dares speak out against BF. You know who you are. " No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  22. Quote from Moon Nothing is mentioned about printed manuals or DVD boxes either. It wasn't clearly stated that you would not receive these either as you showed a DVD style box not a jewel case but you forgot to mention that in the particular quote so that it would appear that we are all at fault. If you are going to apportion blame then state all the information instead of posting on that which favours your side. By locking the threads you have only proven to the unhappy people that you really do not care. You didn't like the way it was going so it was easy to lock up and threaten with warnings and expulsions if the issue is brought up again. Only post here if you are happy and we are the greatest. Bordering on tyrant. Please confirm that I and others who are unhappy can return by hardgoods for a full refund as what your advert shows is not what you will receive.
  23. The whole point is that the image and advert is showing one thing but what you get is something different. It has been admitted by Moon that what you will receive will need to be more clear in the future. Still consider this to be bordering on false advertising. Do not show an image of goods then send something different. If I saw an advert for a car and bought that car on the way it was advertised I would expect to receive that car, not a tractor. I also was not wanting more for less. But having been more than happy with the previous two products in the series I failed and still fail, to see the image of a cd only in a jewel case. If I had seen this then I would expect to receive only a cd in a jewel case. As I stated I would not have bought it if I had been fully aware and saved $30. I only bought the hard goods based on the image given and have previously been willing to pay the shipping charges for a decent quality DVD case, printed cover and manual. I could have accepted just the DVD case and printed cover. None of us here are aware of how you do your business with printers but the Marines module was a quality hard goods product and I had no reason to expect any less with the British module based on your advert. There certainly is a so what, hard luck attitude floating around and just because there are only a few people, so far, unhappy that makes it ok for us to be disapointed. If you really don't consider the unhappy people as valued customers then say so. $25 hard goods + S&H ($20)= $45 Don't understand your point Moon as I didn't make a false statement. Mr A buys download and burns copy to cd Mr B buys download and hardgoods Mr A & Mr B have exactly the same thing but Mr B has paid $30 more. Nothing special warrants the extra $30. Wasn't clear enough. And to the person who thinks I am just here to blow hot air; it is my hard earned money that I spent on an item that I could have made myself. When you start giving me money to spend then come here and tell me I don't have a right to complain about being mislead and disapointed. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
  24. This module should have been a download only as once you have burned it onto a cd you have the exact same thing that Battlefront charged you $30 extra for. Or even worse $45 if you only bought the hard goods without the download. People have a right to be disapointed and by simply quoting what Moon has said in another thread does not make it ok to not feel disapointed in the quality of the goods. Too many forum police here who who like to jump to the defence of BF. There are faults on both sides with the way this was marketed, advertised and understood. If the image had shown only a cd in a jewel case I wonder how may poeople who have the facility to burn cd's would have bought a copy of the hard goods? I would not. Yes I know it was stated in the small print but having bought other games and been very happy I did not expect this poor offering for what I paid. At least if it was bought with the Marines Module it is not too bad a hit. $55 total (or $45) is a lot of money for a game and I, and obviously others, expected more. As far as the $20 shipping charge goes, how about the next time you offer a cd only just buying first class stamps and posting it. "No plan survives contact with the next turn button"
