  1. AFAIK NATO was the last planned module. :(

Yeah, all the planned modules have been released. There were reasons given for why the French were not going to be included, something to do with the amount of work it would need versus the probable return I think.

Personally, If another module were to ever be released I would rather see another Red side included alongside a new, more temperate, tile set. A new Balkans war might have been fun. Well, for us SF gamers anyway..:)

  2. I mentioned the patch was out on a certain forum only for certain anti CMBN crusaders to come along and slag the game off....wish they would just let go and enjoy what they enjoy and leave everyone else alone....it's tiresome...

Still thanks for the patch I hope the mac users bug gets sorted quickly. I for one don't feel the patch has broke the only things that werent broken before....

Keep up the good work there are many of us who appreciate BF for developing this sort of game...as I don't see many other developers rushing around to create wargames let alone wargames of this calibre...

Simple fact is that the patch has nothing to do with it. You know it, I know it, they know it. They have decided their position and seem happy with their angry little world. It simply doesn't matter to them what the patch fixed or didn't fixed: they will always find problems that point to the END OF THE WORLD OF WAR GAMES LOOK MOM NO HEXES BURN IT! Sorry..:D

One shouldn't bait idiots and then be annoyed when the idiots take the bait.:)

  3. Only had a quick bash so far but it's great fun!

Can I just ask a question? at the rail repair yard there is a building that is totally missing it's roof due to damage (Shown in the third screenshot above,): How did you do that? I've been trying to do the same thing in one of my own maps but don't seem able to do it? It's one of the independent buildings, right? I can do the hole in the roof thing by using CTRL-left click but I can't remove the whole roof like you have. It's driving me mad!

  4. Yeah, the AI is like nothing else on the market. I remember playing the full Arnhem campaign that came with 'Highway to the Reich'. As night fell, I had a bridgehead set up in the town, waiting for the inevitable counter attack. When it came the AI painstakingly probed my lines searching for a weak spot and, when it found one, attacked there in force. It was my first real experience of the AI and it was pretty memorable.

    Great series of games.

  5. I imagine that the Ostfront game would have to include some forms of partisan, but for the western front I'm not sure how much they would fit in.

Thinking about it, though, didn't CMBO include resistance or is that my imagination? I know CMBB included partisans.

  6. Giving orders from the top and letting them filter down through corps, division, regiment, battalion, company and platoon level all in real time is exactly how the 'Command Ops' series by Panther games work. I have and do currently enjoy them. They're fantastic and the AI is very, very good. The Battles from the Bulge one - the most recent - is one of the best high level war games i've played since...well since the last Panther Games title I bought. Of course you can micro-manage down to low levels if you want but, y'know, mileage varies.

  7. Just to help the understanding: import tax and VAT are the same thing. Both levied @ 20% in the UK. The logic goes: goods sold within the EU are subject to VAT. Goods exported from the EU are exempt from VAT (but subject to tax/duty by the receiving country). Goods imported to the EU are subject to zero tax by the country of export - which would give them a 20% price advantage over EU origin goods if they were not subjected to import tax/VAT upon arrival in the EU.

The import tax/VAT can be charged over the retail value of the goods plus the shipping charges. It it collected by the Post Office on behalf of the government. The Post Office will always levy a handling charge - the logic goes that contacting the recipient upfront to pay the tax immediately and avoid the post office having to pre-pay is just too time consuming and costly. Also, the adressee on the package may not be the ultimate payer of the import tax/VAT.

    Pfft, tax grog. :)

  8. The post guy at the local depot said to me "you know if they hadn't put a value of $80 on the front of the package, you'd have had this sent directly to you".

So why don't you guys at Battlefront put a value of $5 on the front of the package? Or even "$0 - sample". Who's going to know otherwise?

Battlefront covered this before. The answer is, IIRC, that it is fraud and they can well do without any possible legal hassle.

What I was wondering, though, is does that $80 include shipping?

  9. This suits the main menu perfectly. I have the Kelly's Heroes theme as my loading music, now only to find something for the AAR screen.

The default music is okay, but doesn't have much personality to it. I actually liked the music for CMSF, reminded me of Battlefield 2.

'Burning Bridges'? from Kelly's? Cool. I was thinking of using that one myself. I've got the Main BoB theme for the menu screen and BoB's 'suite 1' for the loading screen. I've editied it slightly so it reaches the stirring bit faster.

When the Commonwealth module arrives I'm going to use the theme from 'A Bridge to Far'. :)

I didn't realise you could define the music for the AAR screen? What does that file have to be named?

  10. Don't forget about the people in London that reported being charged 40 quid extra. Thats just plain extortion. I think it was something to do with parcelforce?

Import tax is what it is, I didn't pay it this time but I've been hit by it before with other goods. The reason not everything gets hit is because they just don't have the manpower to check absolutely everything. It's pot luck basically.

I've just got back from the collection office and I'm looking at the label just now. No import tax: the breakdown of the 17.90 is £9.90 VAT and an £8.00 handling fee. No import tax, no excise duty, just VAT and 'handling' by the post office. Except in my case is was a flat 20 note because the sods refused to give me change (they don't 'do' change apparently.)

It all went a bit Hulk after that for a minute but all that happened was I scared an old lady. :(

I've had quite a few high value packages from the states over the last few years without ever having had to pay anything extra. In fact, the one thing I've ever had to pay over and above for was a copy of 'The Operational Art of War' from about 10 years ago. I think the buggers have got it in for wargamers, lads. We'd better watch out!
