  1. tsk, tsk "eye candy" indeed ... In one fell swoop you have just upset and insulted the entire Bren Tripod lobby. ;)

Indeed! To the PENG challenge thread with him so that he may learn the error of his ways and seek forgiveness.

Next thing you know he'll be trying to dissuade us of the merits of dead cows or sumfink!

  2. To be honest I don't remember a single killer bug after the Marines module came out. By 1.10 the game was pretty much sorted out and leftover issues have been dealt with on a fairly frequent bases since them. In fact, even prior to Marines it was getting better and better. It may have been rather buggy on release but it didn't actually stay like that for very long.

  3. I love SF as much as any of the earlier games and I was someone who never thought the setting would do much for me. I'm awaiting SF2 with the same hunger as a lot of people are showing for BN - and I'm mad keen for that one too.

I especially love urban maps against well trained and equipped irregulars; MOUT warfare can be a great leveller in SF, especially when, like me, you suck at it..:D

I suspect that it IS the setting that turned a lot of people off, for whatever reason. The simple fact is that toys like Tigers, Shermans and MG42s occupy that space in their heads that had been fed over the years by movies, comic books, stories from relatives and the first wargames or toy soldiers people had. Nostalgia - even for something never experienced first hand - is a potent thing. For myself, I know that WW2 games like this tie into the same impulse that made the games I played with a box load of WW2 airfix soldiers so much fun.

  4. I've just discovered the NATO module has a version of GeorgeMc's Scenario 'Hammertime' which was one of my favourite scenario's from the early days of SF. The NATO version replaces the US troops with a German mech company and looks like it will be very bit as good. I must have missed it when NATO first came out but I'm about to remedy that oversight.

Does anyone know whether there was ever a Brit module version of this? I'd love to try it with Warriors and Challys.

  5. Just noticed something!!!!!

    *

    T-junction walls!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Guys, I may sound batsh*t crazy to you, but I just spent 3 years building at least a thousand urban housing compounds in downtown Ramadi, and making do with those funky diagonal intersections when I needed a 3-way junction.

    OK, I am batsh*t crazy....

Nope, you're not crazy. T-junction walls will make life so much easier for those of us who love to make maps. I would kill for them in my SF creations. I wish we could get wall with doorways/gates as well....

Man, the rural buildings just look fantastic as well.

    Nice one BFC.

  6. With all the talk about the new features on CMBN, I thought whether the good folks at Battlefront had thought about resurrecting the two battles on the original CMBO demo for CMBN, that is:

    A Chance Encounter

    Valley of Trouble

The timeframes might be a bit out with the first one in April 1945 and the second one in September 1944 but I suppose it doesn't really matter as the kit used is available in the timeframe for CMBN.

I really enjoyed playing these two battles on the original CMBO demo and it would be great if we can get a similar battle for CMBN.

    Dan

There have been versions of these two for every Combat Mission ever released, including Strike Force. I would imagine that, even if BFC don't include them with the game or demo, somebody will release versions within a week or two of CMBN coming out.

Aside from purely nostalgic reasons, I also like seeing how the same scenario handled all the engine tweaks and changes over the years. First time I played the CMSF version I got my rear handed to me.

  7. Why would the USA want anything to do with Stirling? Hopefully what ever they did do would involve fire and lots of it. :P

Oh I don't know. One of the main critisims of CMSF is that it is too one sided and dominated by the blue forces. So I'd be all in favour of a Stirling map. How about a company of marines versus a team of neds fae the Raploch? Certainly redress the onesidedness! :D

  8. I was suspicious of the change but fell in love with the game very quickly. I'd probably go as far to say that CMSF is my favourite Combat Mission title. While i am looking forward to CM:N and it's various modules, the one I am waiting for is the next modern day title. I'm probably as excited about the NATO pack as I am about the WW2 game.

  9. Can't be any worse then a DnD forum where you have people who have played it since the 70's up to the new 4th edition folks. Everyone has their own favorite version, and all other beliefs are declared heretics to the true faith.

A DnD edition war is a terrible thing to behold...and so sensless when we all know 'Pathfinder' is clearly the better option...:D:P

All joking aside, the growing fundamentalism of computer game fans is slowly making me sick of the hobby. So pronounced is it on some sites I've visted I'm beginning to suspect it might make a good subject for a PHD.

  10. Well, I just hope that CM2 Normandy comes out soon and helps me forget CM 1. CMSF just never did anything for me.

Once they bring out the NATO pack they can skip Normandy for a year or so as far as I'm concerned - in fact they can skip it for a lot longer if they get to work on the temperate SF game. I genuinely never thought I'd enjoy a modern combat sim as much as I have and am quite happy to wear a big shiny 'Fanboi' badge to prove it. :D

  11. Are we going to get rain and fog and all manner of inclement meteorological goodness? It''l be nice to get some variety after Syria. I take it such conditions will have a big effect on air cover as well?

To be honest I've been enjoying SF so much I haven't really given CM:N much thought. I'm beginning to pay more attention, though....those shots are great.

  12. Changing slightly subject. Has anybody watched "El Alamein-Deserto di fuoco"? It's one of the best IIWW movie I've seen in the last 3-4 years but I don't know if it was released abroad too.

Heard the name but don't know whether I've seen it distributed here. I imagine it's available on DVD somewhere. I'll have to keep a look out.
